    I visited Man’s Wok to explore the birthplace of fish and chips, dating back to 1863 and was pleasantly surprised to find that the new owners continue to serve excellent chippy fare. The shop was spotless, and the staff were welcoming and courteous. It was also lovely to see the cooking in action behind the counter. Conveniently, there’s a large pay-and-display car park across the road, and Mossley is a charming town. The battered cod was a standout—thick, fresh, and perfectly cooked in a light, crispy batter. The chips were just the right thickness and full of flavour. While the salt and pepper chips were enjoyable, a few more salt and pepper vegetables would have elevated them further. The salt and pepper ribs were wonderfully tender. To round it all off, the gravy, mushy peas, and potato fritters were all spot on.
