Got a cod roe and scolop the batter was so thick and rubbery Donna was old and cold , hard And the the fillet burger old and cold I know when things are fresh coz am in the same trade for last 35 years Fish king is better 200 yards down the road
I have been a customer for years and I have seen a massive decline in service and food recently. Now this place is shambles. It is constantly closed for no apparent reason, could be hygiene, could be something else. The portions are very small, I always feel hungry after a large donner meat and chips or any full meal. I asked for a large plain bag of chips and was charged £4. That is extortionate. The food is not consistent, mostly it tastes old and rotten and not fresh, yet sometimes it tastes good. The staff are robotic and rude at times. I would not recommend this shop to anyone
My family have been regular customers for over a decade and eating here is a family tradition. This place does the best food. My sister in law Kirandeep is a big fan
Rubbish food, very small quantities. Ordered a medium Donna meat and chips and was given 3 strands of dnaa meat. When asked for a bit more I was told that's what you get for a medium. Guy behind the counter(old and bold) was rude and has no customer service skill. Would never recommend to anyone. Shame as food isn't that bad and I had been here a few times. But will never return after this encounter.
Been coming to the shop for over a year and generally pop in always on route from London and Oxford on my way back one heading north. Today was one two pieces of chicken n chips normally is a best n a leg and I got two legs literally as you opened at dinner time today 12pm. I was going to come back in but it went in the bin round the corner chips were nice as always but the chicken looked very, very poor I did taste some no usual juice so it says something I won't be stopping to the shop anymore . Shame really always rated the place
The chips were really nice but the battered sausage was that inedible the dog didn't even want it . Usually I have the pie and chips which is the best in Smethwick this has really let it down

Food better ------ Previous review: Honest and truthful review from a 15+ years customer - this place has been great and the go-to place until Brexit and then early 2022, (post covid lockdown/restrictions), where this place has just been going down. Prices gone up and smaller portion size. I totally understand inflation is going up, but the price no longer reflects on the portion size and the standard of food… Food not fresh/problems on MANY occasions; dark grey in chicken, kebab not cooked properly, grilled beef burger pre-made which is then placed back on the grill to re-heat = burnt, sausage lukewarm and smell off, fish smelling off). ~ maybe being re-used the next day? New staff who consistently do not communicate well with their customers. I’ve never had any issues before covid. It’s a real shame. They do not accept cards. So instead, I've been tightening up my belt and been trying out Fish King down the road – MUCH better; try kebab with chips and compare, you’ll see. There are two positives: speed of service and pizza. Smethwick Fish Bar need to seriously up their game.
I ordered food after a very long time and honestly since my childhood i used to visit this chippy all the time but recently it has gone really downhill. The chicken i ordered looked very old and the meat was very dark and pinky looked awful also the quality in food is very bad. It really made my stomach turn during the night made me sick. Really wouldn’t recommend this place at all guys.
I was hesitant about coming after seeing other google reviews but personally thought the food was FANTASTIC. The chips were well cooked, lovely and soft. The doner meat was really tasty. Plus to top if off their prices were soooo cheap!!
