As I approached Mr English Traditional Fish & Chips (possibly changed to Mr. English Fish & Chips), the shop looked like a promising local chippy. Inside, it was spacious, with plenty of tables in the dining area and a large food preparation space that allowed a clear view of the action. The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly the young lady who served me, who was a credit to the team. The Food Hygiene Rating at the time of my visit was 3, so hopefully, it will improve by the time of their next inspection. The "traditional" sign above the door had been removed, perhaps due to the extensive menu and possible move to a takeaway catering for other tastes too, which included burgers, kebabs, jacket potatoes, southern fried chicken, and more. The cod was in a light, slightly oily batter, but had a pleasant flavour. The chips were as expected, nice, and the tasty potato scallops were tender yet firm. The spicy curry sauce had a good kick, and the chop suey roll was crunchy and delicious. The chips were very under cooked and the curry sauce hardly had any flavour. The lady who served us was lovely though

I was looking forward to this visit. Decided to eat in, not a bad little eating area. Chose the Fish meal deal Fish, chips and peas and a 330 ml can for £11, treated myself to a side of fruity curry. Chips were ok, looked anaemic, but ok, peas were ok, the fish on top looked nice, turn it over thick crusty batter and hollow in parts. Bit tasteless also. Fruity curry was nice. Friday PM

Excellent "chippy". Good quality, huge portions, helpful and welcoming staff at competitive prices. Use it on a regular basis

This is a fantastic chippy.Great chips and fish. The battered burgers and spam fritters are to die for. The one and only negative but this applies to all chippy's is the price.

Great Food, fabulous staff apart from a couple of the old birds. They can look scary but heart of gold. Would recommend food, size of portions and choice. Always well stocked

Fantastic chippy. Card machine was broken so had to nip to the nearby cash machine. But great service, fantastic food. And quite fairly priced. Obviously the more extravagant the fish the more expensive it is. Not rocket science. But for a regular cod and chips it's lovely.
