We have been to Duttons over the last few years and always enjoyed our time spent. This year however we were disappointed by being asked to leave around 6.30pm last saturday due to a private party booked. We had finished our meals and were enjoying a few drinks and would have happily spend more time and money there if it not for being asked to leave. This would not have been a shock if you could have kindly advised us at the time of booking. It didn't spoil our evening as we moved elsewhere and finshed off a brilliant day. Sorry Duttons but you let us down on this occasion.

Went to go for a drink today at 16:00 on a Sunday. We had a 3 month old baby with us. Turned away as βbookings onlyβ. The place was empty. The place is suppose to be βunder new managementβ and is turning people away. I have been here many a times over the past 20 years and always received a warm welcome even when no seating available had a drink at the bar. Never again will I return. Plenty of other welcoming places to go in Chester. Avoid and take your hard earned cash and custom to a place that wants it.

Birthday meal with my husband. Knew it was going to be disappointing when we were sat by the toilet entrance. 3 course christmas menu booked in advance and deposit had to be paid and order given before arrival. What could go wrong? The staff where to busy to keep up with what was happening at each table . The nicest thing to say is i would never go back . Paying the bill we were told we won't be charged for the missing course. So nice of them .

Was live music playing, staff were lovely and the food is so good and good value for money! We had main and deserts and we had a good time and was seated on a good sized table with loads of room, definitely will be back soon!!

We love it here, every time we come we're never disappointed. Β£19.95 for 3 courses from the fixed price menu. Best to book, but we were lucky to get a table due to a no show. We'd been to the Christmas Market and decided to treat ourselves to a lovely meal. The place is deceiveingly bigger than it looks. Big room for a function and little nooks.

Just awful! Went for a romantic meal before an event at the cathedral next door. We were sat on a table less than a foot away from the couples on either side of us so everybody could hear each others conversations and it felt like a group meal rather than a romantic evening for two. The music was super loud and made the place feel like a club rather than a smart restaurant, we had to raise our voices to speak to each other across the table, it was more my chemical romance than romantic. Our sharing starter of warm breads came out with humous and olives thrown on the side....when we came to eat the bread it was wet(!??!?!)....and I do mean soggy, which was really off-putting. We had to ask for a salt and pepper pot which when they were brought to the table, were both empty. We sent the bread back and the waitress brought out fresh bread that wasn't soggy but it had kind of put us off eating it. We both ordered tandoori chicken burgers for mains. Upon arrival it was clear they had been burnt to a cinder. The presentation was fairly awful, the meals weren't even served with a salad garnish. The onion bargees were incinerated to a point that they weren't even edible. Any taste of tandoori was lost, as the chicken looked like it was straight from Satan's BBQ. Ironically, the fries were under cooked. The manager kindly took the food off our bill, but the evening was very disappointing, I've never had to complain about a meal before, but we'll choose a different venue next time to dine out in Chester.

Good spot for lunch. They start serving lunch menu after noon. The steak pie and atmosphere were great.
