I've been twice. The first time the service was really good, the food excellent and the atmosphere nice. The second time the service was very poor. 40 minutes for the drinks to arrive after asking twice. Food was 45-50 minutes (we were told 30 minute for food). Food was good though. Both times we've visited have been for lunch and it wasn't that busy.

Lovely menu, cosy atmosphere and amazing service in the middle of the zoo! Fish & chips is humongous)) lovely desserts too. A nice surprise given its location. Definitely recommend

Visited near Christmas in an afternoon for lunch. The food was really nice - and a little bit more unusual for what you'd normally expect from a 'tourist attraction' type place! The staff were friendly and helpful with assisting with a gluten intolerance that one of our party has. Would definitely recommend for if you are visiting Chester Zoo!

The food you can pick up anywhere at Chester Zoo is usually pretty good. However, the food at the Oakfield is excellent. It's probably best described as "pub food", but taken to another level. Really tasty, well presented and served quickly too. Even at peak times, the food seemed to come out fast, which is an added benefit if you're trying to see the whole zoo and don't want to 'waste time' in a restaurant. There was a range of options available, from a burger, fish and chips, to slightly more exotic tacos and similar dishes. Coupled with a wide range of drinks, you could spend some time in here and completely forget that you were in a major tourist attraction at the same time. You do need a zoo ticket to visit, so even if you book a table, you'll need to either be a zoo member, or already have a ticket for the day. There's no way around this. One slight downside was, when asked how a particular dish would be made gluten free, as per the menu options, our server replied "don't know" and made no offer to go find out. Didn't fill me with confidence, so I'm opted for something safer. All that said - well worth a visit.

Food was excellent and the decor provided a nice atmosphere, however, it was a relatively busy Saturday afternoon (although plenty of seating was still available) which unfortunately led to quite a wait time on service (some people had their bills reduced to compensate for this) To their credit staff were friendly and apologetic but we could tell they were short-staffed for the day which hurt the overall experience. I would advise allowing extra time here in your day to ensure you don't feel rushed as it took us 45-55 minutes to receive our mains (we didn't order starters just drinks) or alternatively, go to one of the other dining options within the Zoo if you want more time to enjoy animal spotting.

We dined here mid week & the place is very nice. The food was reasonably good but the service wasn't the best. We had to ask for menus & the servers were pretty slow/unattentive even though it wasn't particularly busy.

First time here. Excellent food. The staff are brilliant so helpful and friendly. Highly recommended but you may need to book at busy times...we didn't but was still able to be accommodated.

I booked this restaurant to ensure I had somewhere to eat whilst visiting the zoo. After asking staff for directions I eventually found it. It is an amazing looking restaurant. Due to my dietary requirements I opted for the North Sea Haddock and Chips. I don't eat mushy peas and was offered an alternative in the form of garden peas. The fish and chips in my opinion were amazing. One of the best that I've had. Staff were super friendly. Would definitely come here again and highly recommend.
