We dined on a thu evening at The Rise for my parents wedding anniversary. We were greated by a card from the restaurant to my parents which was a lovely touch. For starters we had the cheese souffle. This was delicious however it said with walnuts but we didn't see any. For mains two of us had the lamb shanks, my husband had the fish and chips and my mum had the fish pie. Portion sizes were on the smaller side but more than adequate for us, the fish pie was larger and mum said every mouthful was packed with seafood. All were absolutely beautiful. Delicious well done chef! We only had two desserts, the pavlova and the chocolate mouse. Both were very tasty and each with its own twist on things. Food is on the more expensive side, but you pay for what you get and it's definitely worth it. Drinks are very expensive, nothing special but absolutely OK. Service fabulous the staff never stop working hard to ensure you are well cared for, very attentive. We were served by Jack mainly but all staff were fabulous. We have had two afternoon teas here which were also delicious and wonderful. The whole hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We will definitely be coming back and highly recommend.

Incredible food and the service is next to nothing perfection all of the staff are very very friendly and accommodating. Can't really say anything else. Oh and the cocktails are beautiful. It is very expensive just for one I spent over Β£130 however, this is expected and I wouldn't pay a penny less

The food CANNOT be faulted. Very much on the expensive side, but the food was sensational. The waiters were extremely friendly, however the service was slow. We were one of only 5 tables being served. We waited 40 minutes between the starter and main. We asked for ketchup and it had been forgotten so had to ask again. We then waited around 30 minutes for our plates to be cleared, and we got our desert menus before our plates were cleared. With the price of the food, you do expect a 10/10 service which we did not receive unfortunately. We would still go again, but I would suggest the service needs to be looked into.

We had a dinner at the Rise restaurant. It was a real delight. Food was exquisite and delicious, atmosphere was great and service was fantastic. We ordered a couple of starters, a famous beef Wellington for two and desserts. Everything was absolutely delicious. Beef Wellington was melting in the mouth. Much better than what I tried at a Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant. Our server Vera was attentive and hospitable. She recommended us wine pairing and explained the dishes and made us feel very welcome, indeed. We had a lovely dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Rise Restaurant in York, and I can honestly say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely amazingβ€”every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the preparation and the sourcing of ingredients. The service was equally impressive. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made us feel truly welcomed without being overbearing. It’s clear they take pride in creating a memorable dining experience. Whether you’re visiting York or live locally, The Rise is definitely a spot I’d highly recommend. A perfect combination of great food, lovely ambiance, and top-notch service.

A wonderful mealβ€” very welcoming atmosphere and each dish we ordered was excellent and crafted with care. Of note was the Milk and Honey dessert: none of us had ever tasted anything like it before so it was a special revelation.

I had seen some mixed reviews before coming, which made me slightly apprehensive. However, I have to say I was impressed. The service was attentive and friendly, the food plentiful and tasty, and the restaurant has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a nice ambience. I enjoyed watching the chefs work in the open kitchen, and they took great care over the food. Being in a 5* hotel it is towards the upper price point, however given the quality of the food and service I was a happy customer. I would recommend a visit.

During our stay at The Grand, York, we enjoyed an exceptional dinner at The Rise Restaurant. It boasts stylish and modern decor, with the ability to see into the kitchen and watch your food being prepared. This is a lovely addition to the dining experience. The food was delicious, highly priced but definitely worth it. The waiters can’t do enough for you and are so welcoming, the wait times are short, the utensils and other table decor is impeccably clean and it has a great atmosphere to it. We will absolutely be returning and encourage others to do the same.

I took my husband here as a birthday treat and he loved it. The food was incredible and the service was fantastic. The staff couldn’t do enough. We were given breads with oil and special butter to nibble before the starters arrived. I ordered the scotch egg. At the end of the main course we were both stuffed but we forced ourselves to split a dessert because it was too good of an experience to not. We ordered a dessert called something like β€œmilk and honey” and it was brilliant. 10/10. Would definitely recommend this for someone wanting a fine dining experience. We cannot wait to go back.

Coming with high expectations set by my fellow reviewers we where rather disappointed. Not so much of the kitchen - it is what you would expect from a restaurant, yet by the service. Likely not enough trained, the management should more care about skills and experience of its staff. Standards like opening/tasting a bottle of wine should be known. I had to return my espresso 2 out of 3 times because it was cold. It simply stood at the bar for just to long not being served. Organisation mattes - and this is what management is responsible for.
