Unfortunately I had the same experience as many people here. I, like many others, was made to feel so uncomfortable and chastised for needing to use the toilet even though I was a paying customer. I'm really not sure why this toilet issue is such a big thing with this café when its an absolute basic to offer customers. Cafe was dark, not clean (including toilet) and generally unwelcoming. Despite being locals and regulars to the park, we wont ever go to the cafe again because of how we were treated. Everyone needs to wee!!! Unsure why its such an issue at this cafe, we've never encountered anything like it. Looking at all the negative reviews on this cafe and the same issues coming up again and again, I think its time for the staff to reflect and take them on board. Such a shame too as its a lovely park and would be nice if there was a nice cafe too.

Rude staff and an extremely loud “private party” being held outside the cafe once they closed for the day. They would not turn the music down and did the opposite when we politely asked them, stating that they had a “24 hr license”. Wouldn’t recommend this spot for family’s with young kids. I had assumed this was a council owned cafe but they appear to do as they please with little care for the general public wanting to use the wider park. The owner also flat out refused to let us use the toilet saying it was “out of order” and would be fixed in a few hours - which I found quite hard to believe. Won’t be going back any time soon.

I was walking through the park with my family while heavily pregnant. We wandered past the cafe and I saw the owner was just beginning to close up. In my heavily pregnant state and with a very full bladder I asked very politely if I could use the toilet, as there are no other toilets in the park and we were a long walk from home. I was met with an awful attitude from the owner - effectively saying she only allows paying customers to use the toilet and she had closed the tills now so "tough". I offered to give her a couple of pounds for the inconvenience, but then she still flat out refused because "she had already mopped the floor in there". Seemed like a really petty reason not to allow a heavily pregnant person use your facilities and felt very much like she was just upholding an overly strict rule she's imposed. Despite passing through the park on several occasions since then I have never returned to the cafe as that is not the sort of person I want to support.

A lovely looking Cafe if you don’t mind the angry owner lady. She doesn’t seem to enjoy talking to people or having people around at all. I don’t want to judge, maybe she was having a bad day or it was just because of the menopause. Who knows? I wish her all the best and I don’t think I am going to bother her again by going to her cafe.

Over heard a frosty exchange of very inconsiderate staff members/owner who wouldn't let a disabled child make use of the toilet (as wasn't a paying customer) however the family were happy to pay for goods. Staff were very rude towards them in front of the child. Given that it's the only toilet in the park. And it's a council run park absolutely disgusting attitude of owner /staff. "In a world where you can be anything, be kind"

Incredibly rude woman behind the counter with an over-opinionated view of non-dairy milk amongst other things. If you ask for it, regardless of the reason, expect to be literally shouted at in front of everyone. This woman is a disgrace to the hospitality profession. You can hear her shouting and raving about her ridiculous views from a mile off - so uncomfortable. Really do not recommended coming to this café, there are many more cafés a few minutes walk away in the village where you'll be treated in a normal, friendly manner. Still shocked at this awful woman lol.

I asked if they had oat milk as I have a very serious dairy allergy and I was shouted at, told they proudly support the dairy industry and offered San Miguel as my milk alternative. As I walked away embarrassed and upset I heard the same rude lady shouting and ranting after me about how ridiculous my request was. I'm still confused as to why it happened, if you have an allergy please avoid this cafe at all costs as they absolutely do not take it seriously and you could end up very ill.

Been to this little gem of a place regularly for coffee and snacks. Such friendly service and today at the Halloween sweetie hunt they excelled themselves in putting on a fun and child friendly event. Thank you so much Abney Cafe!

Cute little cafe. Standard coffee and butties. Nothing fancy but just what you want on a morning dog walk.

Update, received a really nice apology. Its a basic cafe, but a coffee for a quid, and a lovely area, to have a walk. Have revised my scores from 1 star to above. We quite often visit the cafe when taking our dog for a walk, and it's great that there are water bowls available a an outside tap to fill. We quite often have a brew, but had not taken any money. The person running the cafe asked if we wanted a drink, and we explained we normally do, but had forgotten any money. Anyway our dog was running around playing with other dogs, and was drinking some water, and the bowl needed filling. I went to fill it, but no water came out. I went and asked the person, and he said, "because we had not bought any drinks, we could not have any water for the dog. To be honest I could not believe how mean this was, and told him so, and returned the bowl, which bounced of the counter and onto the floor. I told my wife, and she was surprised. Next thing he comes out screaming that I threw the bowl at him, coming right up to me very aggressively. He then became very verbal, and think on there were customers watching this, as he shouts that if you don't by a drink, no water for your dogs. This is the first time ever a place has refused water for our dog, whether we purchased anything or not. I tried to explain we normally do buy something, and one time the lady gave us a drink, when we forgot money, and we paid for it on our next visit. Then he said if we had been regularly, he would have given water, but the mad thing is we had already said that. I thought he was going to get physical, the way he acted, and not a very good experience. Very poor.
