Tread very carefully when buying from this business, especially if you need to return an item for a refund due to the item being damaged (upon later inspection, by the recipient, as a gift). My partner was accused of "pulling a fast one" (ie. lying) and left close to tears. If you have any post-purchase concerns (despite calling prior to notify the business of the intention to return the item) and dare to return faulty item for a refund, expect a battle, be accused of lying (twice) and being removed from the store when they don't get their own way (ie. customer entitled to a refund under statutory rights). We were accused of wasting the the business owners' time (when it was the lovely shop assistant who actually called them at home for me to query the policy with the owner to facilitate a successful outcome - the refund of which eventually did get sanctioned). Unreal and somewhat unexpectedly bizarre customer experience from, first impressions, what was I thought to be a promising small business whom I shall now never trust or buy from again. They have alot to learn when it comes to customer service. I suggested that negative feedback would be forthcoming (especially for their rudeness towards my partner) and the owner angrilly said he would welcome it, additionally accusing us of hostility when all we politely asked was for a refund and kept being fobbed off. I sincerely wish any small business venture well, and always keen to support small enterprises, but any such verbal aggression towards the hands that feed them is not appreciated and quite frankly, beyond belief. Trying to explain a situation honestly and being accused of lying, is just not on. *ADDENDUM* (3.1.2026) Following on from my partner's comments and your response I wanted to address some things myself (as the recipient of the jumper). Firstly, if a customer has to return to your store (at an inconvenience to themselves) to return an item which is damaged, it should be a straightforward process, as it is anywhere else. It is not reasonable or fair to have a policy in place which means that if the store owner is not present, the customer should have to return on another occasion at an additional expense to themselves in time and money. We had already travelled nearly 30 miles to return the jumper (after calling the store in advance to explain the problem and initially see if there was another in the same size that it could be exchanged for, which I was told there wasn't). I explained that we would be intending to visit with the jumper the following week and there was no mention that the owner had to be present if it were to be refunded. You entrust a member of staff to run the shop in your absence, it is ridiculous that this member of staff is not trusted as being able to recognise a damaged item and therefore process the refund themselves. In addition to this, the underlying suggestion (when your staff member voluntarilly called you and passed the phone to us) was that I/we'd intentionally damaged the jumper in order to get a refund as you went into great detail about the fact that it wasn't possible for it to have left your shop in a damaged condition. It was also implied that I hadn't even made the phone call in the first place because you 'hadn't taken a call yourself regarding this and you take most of the calls'. The ultimate horror was when I explained that I'd since been able to buy a replacement elsewhere as you didn't have another in my size and I was then accused of 'pulling a fast one on you '! At this point I was so shocked I had to hand the phone back to my partner who then received a flurry of rudeness from your husband, followed by him calling security and then attending. By this time I was shaking and my heart was racing. I've never been treated so badly in any other establishment and even apologised to your member of staff for the awkwardness it must have made her feel. You were more concerned about being interrupted on your day off than having to make a repeat 60 mile round trip to return the item when you were present.

Excellent service on my first visit to this store. Told the assistants what I was looking for and they both helped to find suitable items without being pushy . Came out pleased with my purchase.

What a wonderful little independent shop this is! I went to Fuel looking to buy a few presents for my partners birthday last week. Shopping isn't my favourite pastime but the experience was a delight. The choice was amazing and the staff very polite and knowledgeable. As usual one of the presents wasn't to my partners liking so we returned this week and we were offered a credit note or exchange straight away. With such a great choice of products my partner quickly picked an alternative item and exchanged it. Will definitely be returning here, it's great to see these little independent shops that care about the customer. Definitely recommend.

Shopped here for many years and always had a good experience. Recent change of ownership has meant I still receive the same customer service as always. So glad to see a local small retailer survive Covid, Brexit and a business sale….keep up the great work everyone at Fuel

What a disappointing experience. Bought a pair of boots that started to fall apart after two months. Initially offered to exchange but then backtracked saying we needed to deal with the manufacturer. Then changed his story, again, saying that he wasn't the owner when we bought the product. And when we went in to discuss the issue we were asked to leave. When you try and support a local business only to be treated so poorly is very disheartening.

Have shopped here many times, always found something nice, fashionable and reasonable cost. The only criticism is no refunds..unusual in this day and age.
