Outstanding pub,we were up from south for work in the area, walked in at 5:30pm and was easy to grab a table straight away. Staff were really friendly and was served a delicious beer before being told to sit wherever was free, was given menus and had our order taken at the bar. Went for the scotch egg to start (unbelievable) then the fish pie (best fish pie I’ve ever had) then the brownie which was sublime. Proper English pub full of chat, low light with great decor and cracking vibe, not many pubs around this good anymore where you get this food quality and atmosphere for a reasonable amount of money. Luckily got more work up here so will defiantly be visiting again. Cracking pub 10/10

Lovely cosy atmosphere in winter. Still keeps the old pub style charm with low ceilings/beams. Quite full as well the whole time we were there. I loved the fact there was no music for once!!! But a nice background buzz of chatter. I plumped for the pheasant meal which was super. My husband had the steak pie and thought the pastry casing was fantastic and very meaty. The staff were great, very good at their jobs. If I lived in the area I'd eat here a lot!

A classic British pub at its best. Low ceilings, candlelight, mis matched tables and chairs - just tons of charm and charisma. The food menu is packed full of classics and they do offer children’s meals even though there is no kids menu. We had a lovely family Sunday lunch there just this week and my kids have already asked to go back, as have we!

Tried here for the first time today when we arrived we were greeted with open arms and seated straight away which was a shock because it was soooo busy..the food was really good with a very generous portion and really good value for money.. Drinks menu was massive and beer and cider was so cheap.. Excellent place and well worth a visit..

Lovely food - just on the small size portions with the starters. Burnt thd toast under my mushrooms -so thats all you could really taste - and the brown shrimps and trout starter was very small . Steaks were good-drinks were good -as was the service. If I'm that way again, I would call - but try other dishes to get a better look at what's on offer.

Excellent pub with a genuine friendly welcome and atmosphere. A proper country pub with low beams, flagged floors, real fires and always a great choice of locally brewed real ales. Rightfully very popular. A real gem, well worth a visit.

Proper old school boozer with proper real fires and small roof. Really cozy inside with massive garden for the three days a year we get sunshine. God choice of drink and food, but the pie in the attached picture is my favourite and the main reason I come here. The pub is always full and is a sign of how good it is, recommend 100%!!!!

Sunday lunch. No bookings here. Just roll up and wait. Downside is you are then stood right in the way of everything. Very tight and congested bar area. Got too much and I had to step outside. That said, lovely staff. Good menu and my dinner was great. Large outside area so will return in the summer. Not sure I'd eat inside again as too hectic for me personally. Dog friendly in very small area.

Went here with 2 friends for lunch today, and was not disappointed. Lovely cosy pub, with lit candles on the tables, and very welcoming staff. My friends had the Steak & Ale pie, and thoroughly enjoyed it, and I had the Sea Bass, which was delicious. We had two Desserts, of Cheshire Ice Cream, and one friend had the individual Apple & Cinnamon Crumble, with a jug of custard. It looked delicious, and obviously was, as he ate every bit of it. It’s quite a rarity now to find such good home cooked food, but now we have, we will be back. I should have taken a photograph of everything, I wish I had, as it was beautifully presented, but remembered to take a photo of the crumble dessert, before it disappeared.

Fabulous food, atmosphere/ambience, service. All in all a great place to meet up with friends and enjoy great food and beers. Lots of outdoor seating too. Love this place! Down sides.....parking is difficult and you can't book.... so be prepared for a wait or arrive early. There's a lovely 4 mile circular walk from the pub too which helps you work up an appetite.
