I went in saying that I wanted my hair as long as possible, and we agreed an amount Mags would take off. My main problem was that my hair wasn’t all the same length because it hadn’t been cut in years, so I was realistic about having a lot taken off and agreed to 7 inches of hair for it to all be the same length and to cut all the damaged hair off. I explained that I had bad experiences with hairdressers in the past and was really nervous, but I was totally respectful of her profession and listened to her advice. I asked her to show me on my hair how long it would be, which she did not do, she only referenced where it came down to on the chair. I could not have been clearer about what I wanted. I did not ask for layers and she cut layers in, without ever using the word layers. It was not communicated to me at all. In retrospect the only clue I had was that she said she didn’t like her hair all the same length which I didn’t think I needed to respond to because I thought it was just a statement on her own preferences. I wish I had said at that point that I wanted it all the same length and that was the whole reason for having the haircut, but I felt awkward saying to a hair dresser that I wanted the opposite of what she wanted and I had already made it so clear, so it should have been unnecessary. I think Mags can learn from this not to talk about her own preferences for her hair because it just makes it hard for customer to say what they want. Had she said that she thought layers would look good I would have said it wasn’t what I wanted and the shock of losing seven inches would be enough for one day. If I had agreed to layers they would have needed to be subtle, two inches shorter than the rest of my hair at most. The shortest layer was eight inches shorter than the longest and they were chunky, leaving me with a step in my hair. When I went back Stuart looked at it and said it would look better with an extra four inches off to take off the most drastic of the layers. They are a couple so this was very awkward. I went in with hair that went down past my bum, agreed to waist length hair and came out with the shortest and thickest layer shoulder length. I initially left a nice review because she was so apologetic on the phone and she actually thanked me for telling her so she could fix it, but when I went back in Stuart kept talking about where the ‘weight line’ of my hair was and Mags said there were bits of hair missing. This is not true. She cut it all to the same length so there were no bits of hair missing and the weight line which made it look like there was a huge step in my hair was because of the layers she cut in afterwards. I hate leaving a review like this and I have never done it before, but I don’t want anyone else to have this awful experience. I would really like Mags to communicate better with customers. Both Mags and Stuart come across as very nice people and wish them the best, but if you are going to get your hair cut by them double and triple check they understand what you have asked for.

So it seems this hairdressers is great and has been for sometime but my Grandma visits here every month and has around 3mm cut off with no wash. She gets charged £30 which i think is unbelievable and is taking advantage of an elderly woman. I think someone needs to rethink their business practice

I have been going to Greys for years and am always really pleased with my hair. The staff are really friendly even after the 3 hours that it takes to highlight, cut and blow dry my hair. However, on this occasion, I was disappointed that they charged me an additional £15 for a deep hair conditioning treatment without checking beforehand or telling me how much it would cost.
