   Staff very friendly, courteous over the phone, timber delivered earlier than expected (but was notified when it arrived) so that was a bonus as well. Timber was also packaged in manageable sizes so even a numpty like me can move it around before assembling. Will recommend to others!

   Ordered skirting and one board arrived with a split down the centre I had to chop off around 600 mm pointed this out during delivery and nothing was said. I ordered a replacement explaining my reason as I needed a full length and they sent one another around 600mm short ! So after paying for 4.2 meter length twice I ended up with 2 x 3.6 not only was I charged for it but they charged me delivery ( £18 ). So all in all was charged around £70 for damaged / short order. When I called and asked for refund on the delivery I was told this was not possible as the money was now “in the system” which I feel is nonsense. He offered to collect but as my joiner was on site it was to late. The man I spoke to had an answer for everything which only amounted to everything being my fault. My tip for george hill timber is 1. Don't sell things you don't have. 2.When you mess up fix it at your expense. 3. Tell your staff to take responsibility for error and don't blame-the customer. Will be reporting this to trading standards.

   I've had 3 or 4 orders from George Hill over the last 6 months for various projects. I've found the selection of timber and customer service to be excellent. I always get a call shortly after ordering with an update on stock levels and a predicted delivery date. A follow up call is then made to confirm delivery. The guys dropping off the timber have always been really friendly and gone the extra mile to help move the timber to where i needed it. Very happy with the service and will continue to use for my timber needs.

   Consistently bad quality and overpriced. The price used to be tolerable with the free delivery but now that has been scrapped it's almost as expensive as going to B&Q and you'd likely find better quality timber at B&Q. Over the past year I don't think I've had a pice of timber that hasn't been warped, twisted or split from George Hill. I've recently bought some plyboard that has a veneer so thin all you have to do is sneeze at it and it reveals the yellow glue beneath. also warped to high heaven. delams all over. I should have gone to Wickes. The staff at the head office are nice enough but the lads down at the Bolton branch are fairly unpleasant. Definitely would not recommend.
