Lovely team however, management kindly review opening and closing times at Romford store. I was not allowed in the store at 5.50pm to collect an item when shop shuts at 6pm. I was also not allowed in at 9am Saturday as the shop was not open until 9.10am. Kindly review timing as we are also working people who needs to get to work. Thanks

I try to avoid writing negative reviews/comments about establishments….. 1 star rating is an overstatement! However, after my experience in this Romford River Island today I just had to write this, mainly as a reminder to people who still use cash. I purchased 4 items with a total of £86. I handed over £90 cash. To my own error, I walked towards the door when the young girl who served me said: “The receipt is in the bag”. My attention was distracted by the way this cashier had thrown my items in as I looked into the bag and thought about how my OCD was about to kick in. So, I placed my bag onto a chair near the exit and began to fold my items as they were just thrown in. As I got outside I reached into my pocket, thinking there was a handful of shrapnel, which there was not. Confused, I went back into the bag and realised that she hadn’t gave me any change. “A common mistake” I thought. “It’s only £4”. I walk back to the tills and stood by the girl who served me. Now, at this point, I was confident I did not receive any change. So I ask her if she gave me my change to which she insisted that she gave me £4, making me look and feel like a total mug! So now, I’m taking it personal. Not only has she lied, she has insulted my intelligence. I walk back out of the shop, and I am now questioning my own sanity. After all, it’s only £4. But now, my judgment is being challenged and I’m not going to kick off with a shop full of women. But, I am still riled by this. I’m not letting this go because mistakes in my career can be extremely life-threatening. So there’s no way I will let retail companies take me for C U Next Tuesday! So back in there I go. This time, I ask to speak to a manager. The girl obviously noticed me again as I waited which she informed the manager her version beforehand because when the manager came to me, she already knew the situation. Of course, you have to listen to both sides and you have to support your staff. I understand this. I insisted to the manager it’s not about the £4. It’s the fact that she told me that she gave me the change, and she’s now telling her manager that she gave me the £4. The manager asked for my receipt so she could check the time and look on the cameras to track my steps. As I waited, I again began to question myself thinking “is it in the bag” because, yes, people make mistakes so I emptied it again and re-folded the items. The manager returned after a few minutes and went straight to the till and then came to me, handing me £4 saying: “Sorry about that”. And you know what really struck me? The fact that the employee didn’t even show respect or integrity to come to apologise, or hand me the money that she already insisted she gave me! Having a management position myself, I am imbued with confidence, trust, and responsibility in a very challenging and tough custodial environment so out of principle I couldn’t let it go. It really wasn’t about the £4, and after all that I had to walk away, I wasn’t about to let my ego get the better of me by making a scene with young girls earning a living, but I will be returning all 4 items in the upcoming days. So, if you’re using cash in here be advised if you are served by these youngsters who you wouldn’t even trust to run you a bath. Extremely poor standards and a lack of experience.

Samira (Sam) from the river island Romford store was very helpful in my recent purchase. She looked up the right sizes online and backstore and with her help I got my perfect beige jacket... best regards Archana Nehra

I only have one word to describe my experience at this shop:fantastic! The staff were very helpful and friendly. They were able to help me find the right size and recommend different styles that would suit me. I will definitely be shopping here again soon.
