   After my 2014 disco 4 suffered a catastrophic engine failure, towing a caravan in Devon, I spoke to Joe for advice. I had never dealt with him before, but saw recommendations on Land Rover forums. Despite the fact that I live in Cumbria, and was unlikely to use his service, Joe took the time to talk me through costs, valuations and reliability issues that helped me make my decision not to rebuild the engine. He was also happy to have a discussion about replacement vehicles of LR or other marques. Joe obviously knows his stuff and comes across as an enthusiast, who is very happy in his work.

   A different garage diagnosed a cracked inlet manifold on our Discovery 4 which had already been replaced 10k miles ago. Oval autos managed to fit us in the next day as we have a holiday pending and a caravan to tow which is not ideal with restricted performance. Turns out it was a small pipe required only. They were super honest which resulted in the bill being a lot lot lower than anticipated. Second time using and will definitely use again.

   Avoid these scammers i used this garage for land rover engine rebuild, first they gave estimate for £3500 then they increase their prices to double that, they know they have your deposit and they did a very bad job on the vehicle loud noise started to come from engine and when showed them they say there is no problem, they do not entertain their warranty I'm going to a third party garage for repair and send them estimate if they don't pay I will be going to small claims court to settle the matter.

   Oval Autos is a hidden gem that we hadn’t noticed before despite being very local to us. No other Land Rover specialist in the area I’d already reached out to was interested in taking on our job, and the dealer estimate was extortionate. Joe was very knowledgeable, knew exactly what was needed, ordered the parts in quickly, and the price was very reasonable. Very glad to have found them for future jobs.

   Discovery 4 2012 blown engine, took Joe a replacement unit but gen 2. Joe made it fit and runs like a dream. Also fitted steering rack and prop shaft. Great service and communication. I don't tend to recommend anyone as it can back fire but I do recommend Oval Autos on a 5* services. Thanks Joe and team I am impressed

   Had brakes changed less than a year ago to be told that the squeaking will stop as we drove our Landrover Defender. Job costing almost 2k! The brake squeaking got worse and so contacted Dave to get them checked. Booked me in on Wednesday morning (not a last minute book either). Got here and he is isn’t around and the apprentice just said come back another day. Won’t let me speak to the owner or anything. Poor customer service and lack of professionalism. Both husband and I took day off so we can drop and pick up car. Not impressed at all.

   No one wants to have the engine fail on a 5 year old car (a known problem with Land Rover), but thankfully Oval Autos were able to rebuild the engine. From the first call, Joe was re-assuring. He explained how he worked with an upfront payment to diagnose the full extent of the problem and then quoted for the work to be completed. Once all agreed, he accepted the car way ahead of the agreed slot (low loaded from Ireland). When I went up to pick up the car, again I was re-assured by Joe himself; proper old school, just want you want when your engine has been taken apart and put back together, with all that could go wrong. Now 2 months and a couple of thousand miles later the car runs perfectly, without a hint of loss of water or oil. If only Land Rover were as diligent when they made the car.
