Great food, friendly staff with great service. Home cooked food that tastes great. The place may not look as great as some places but the service is better than most places.

Not from this area of the country and we were looking for somewhere to eat that was dog friendly with parking. Although being slightly dubious from the outside view as the pub was looking tired, we received a warm welcome from the landlady and staff and we were seated in a comfortable seating area with a few doggy nibbles whilst we perused the menu. The steak and ale pie was one of the best I have ever eaten, home made and packed full of lean steak and gravy. Staff were helpful, friendly and courteous throughout our visit and wouldn't hesitate to use again if I was in that vicinity.

Avoid, came here with my wife for a nice meal after a recommendation but found it to be sadly lacking. We had a very dry lasagne and unfortunately i was sick for most of the night afterwards really disagreed with me and the wife did feel very well either. Staff were friendly but won't be returning

Friendly traditional pub. Clean and tidy. Friendly staff. Good selection of beers and wine. The food is hearty traditional and home made. We always enjoy our visit. Only improvements would be to do a proper pie rather than just a puff pastry lid. That’s not a pie. And the Sunday roast- 1 little Yorkshire is always a bit disappointing. Pop 2 on and it would be awesome.

Absolutely LOVE this pub, we went on Sunday and the atmosphere was brilliant. Lots of people having lunch (which looked delicious), but also plenty just having a drink. The people running it have done a great job turning this place around. Will definitely be going back and try the food next time too.

Had Sunday dinner here today and it was awful. We were booked in for when they opened at 12. The meats were dry, the mash was dry and lumpy, advertised as buttery but had never seen a knob of butter. The veg was unseasoned and the gravy had the consistency of tap water with little to no flavour in it. All the waitresses were gathered around the end of the bar talking, no one asked how we were or if there was anything they could get for us, bad service. When walking outside we saw into the kitchen and there was heaps of meat under a heat lamp, hence the dryness. If you want a decent Sunday dinner for a comparable price go to the Mill of the Black Monks at Monk Bretton. The only reason we didn’t go was because we couldn’t get booked in. We won’t be coming back here again.
