Eventually I was given a gentle counsellor here, but prior to this my GP referred me (after the previous GP ridiculing my mental health and refusing), and was given phone appointment with a woman here at the Beeches. I couldn't believe what I was hearing; she showed no interest in my mental health problems and instead simply said to me that once you've come this far (i.e. been referred here by your GP) that all her and the other staff at the Beeches do is then "refer you back to your GP" instead of giving you a counsellor/therapist so that you at least stand a chance of beginning to move forwards with your life. In the moment over the phone I was so shocked to hear this, this woman actually worsened my mental health and made me more fragile. So they just want an easy life, mock patients who need help, and damage you further by causing you much pressure and sending you round in circles. How disgusting. But the counsellor I was given here in the end, after fighting with the woman over the phone (using up my last bit of energy), was nice... but it turned out she wasn't good enough to actually help me given how severe my problems were. After being ridiculed over the phone initially by the first woman, the counsellor I was given assessed me and said, "There's an awful lot there". So I spent over a year just 'chatting' to someone who was gentle and, most of the time, thought before she spoke. Nice counsellor but no progress. It doesn't help patients when these counsellors/therapists haven't experienced severe depression themselves, or been traumatised themselves. They seem clueless and respond in a superficial way - it's probably why they dismissed me over the phone when my GP's referral came through(?)
