   I’ve been coming to the salon for a number of years now and I always leave feeling extremely happy, not only because my hair is lovely, fresh and healthy, but because the whole team makes you feel like family. The minute you step into the shop you are brought into a feeling of being able to relax and enjoy having your hair done. There has been times when I’ve been unsure on what I want to do with my hair, Naomi and Deb will help me find what’s best for me and advocate for what’s healthy for my hair. My little sister also goes to the salon and she has very curly hair, Naomi has always gone an extra mile to educate my sister on how she can care for her curls and what styles are best for her type of hair, the whole team at the salon get my sister out of her shell and give her the confidence to love her hair, which is something you can’t put a price on.

   I've been coming to Head Start Hairdressers for years, and I can't recommend them enough. The team is incredibly friendly, always welcoming with a smile, and their skill and professionalism are second to none. Every visit is a consistently positive experience. They truly know how to make you feel comfortable and the tea and biscuits are always a bonus. I recently moved over an hour away and still travel because of the trust and confidence I have in this salon. An easy 5 out of 5 stars! Cannot recommend enough.

   Absolutely brilliant hairdressers. Wouldn’t go anywhere else, Naomi is a wonderful person who’s highly skilled at hairdressing! Always very pleased with my cut and colour and very reasonably priced too. Cannot fault her, or the other members of the team at Headstart. If you haven’t paid a visit you’re missing out!

   I booked in for a wash, blow dry and pin curls. The younger girl (an intern) washed my hair and did a great job, no complaints there. But from that point things went downhill. The stylist who had being doing hair since she was 15, told me mid-appointment that she wasn’t confident doing what I’d booked. I explained I had an event the next day and said I wished she’d mentioned this at the time of booking, because I wouldn’t have booked it otherwise. While blow drying my hair and adding brushes and rollers she started spraying hairspray directly onto it. When I questioned it, she said she wanted my hair to feel “tacky” before tonging and pinning. I pointed out that hairspray and heat together damages hair, but she asked me to trust her — so I did. She then had to call another girl over to help after over an hour and half in the chair, and that’s when I really began to feel uncomfortable. The second girl was tonging my hair, and I could actually see smoke coming off it. She didn’t even know how to do a pin curl and had to be shown. When brushes and rollers where in my hair they where hanging from my head, I expressed in the appointment I wanted volume from the root so this is not going to allow that as my roots are being pulled down. After seeing smoke coming off my hair more than once from them spraying and then applying heat, I said I wasn’t comfortable and asked them to stop. The stylist told me she’d need to wash my hair again, but I refused. Then the owner (her mother) came over. I explained my concerns calmly and said I thought more training was needed. Instead of listening, she raised her voice and said “EXCUSE ME, my daughter is fully trained.” I replied saying her daughter had literally told me herself during my appointment of a simple blow dry and pins (45 min apt max) she wasn’t confident doing what I booked, so clearly more training is needed. Meanwhile the salon was full of other customers, and I was left feeling embarrassed and spoken down to. I’ve honestly never been treated like that in a salon before.
