   I’ve been to Dawson’s twice and have had very mixed experiences. I am a woodworker specialising in small, bespoke hand tool projects so require only limited quantities of hard wood at a time. The first time I visited, the gentleman I saw was very helpful, interested in what I was doing and cut a piece of beech exactly to my requirements. The second time (two months later) I saw a different person and my experience was entirely different. On this occasion, whilst the person I saw was friendly enough, Dawson’s were only prepared to sell me a large quantity of wood far in excess of my needs. They were not prepared to cut to my requirement as they did on my first visit. I must say the price quoted was reasonable for the quantity concerned but it was far too much for me and I didn’t buy. With such variable customer service I cannot recommend. Maybe if you need a very large quantity of hard wood your experience will be better.
