Beautiful historic building with it's famous gents toilets. Lovely dining room, would highly reccomend booking a table. Great atmosphere, The pies were delicious, but the steak was tasteless and very overcooked.
Astonishingly beautiful old pub. Even the toilets caused comment in our group. The food was excellent and nowhere near as expensive as the decor might suggest. Plus Paul McCartney played in the dining room!
We chose this place mainly because of its very high ratings and the large number of reviews. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the food. We ordered the soup of the day and the Sunday Roast (Beef). The soup was OK, but it lacked any distinct flavor. The main dish, however, was rather disappointing — the broccoli was overcooked. The potatoes, parsley, and carrots were fine. Unfortunately, the meat was very tough and sinewy. Even the gravy couldn’t save the dish. To make matters worse, the staff forgot to bring the gravy and the cutlery, and we had to ask for them. On the bright side, the atmosphere of this place is wonderful, and I do recommend visiting it for that reason. Update 25/10/2025: We were again inside, have chosen dishes and suddenly we were told that the food will no longer be served...(only drinks were available) Update 01/10/2025: This time we had a reserved table at 4:30pm. An hour before we arrived we were told that the reservation is CANCELLED. I asked why, they told because the manager decided to close the venue... I have to say we were never treated like that anywhere and I have no idea how this place have 4+ stars on Google maps Update 22/11/2025: We've been finally able to book a table and order everything we wanted. This time the service was top notch and we tried their pies and fish and chips. All of them looked very good and were delicious. I recommend trying their pies definitely
Stunning architectural sights in here. Feels like walking into a worm hole back in time. Has a very festive nostalgic feeling inside. Beautiful building. Friendly staff. Cosy environment. Toilets voted some of the most beautiful in world. Such a hidden gem..worth a quick visit if close or in the city. Traditional pub fayre. Lots of ornate gold and beautiful carved windows arches doorways etc. Reccomended.
Beautiful building and lovely interiors. As of August 2025 it will be undergoing some refurbishment. We enjoyed the meal and pleasant staff. And the gents toilets have interesting architecture and design.
We had an excellent server called Sergio who was very attentive and friendly with our two kids. We were in Liverpool on a weekend away and he made us feel very welcome. Our kids loved him! The pub itself is spectacular and somewhere we’ve wanted to visit for a long time. The place had a real buzz.
Has hardly changed since our student days in the late 70's. A magnificent building which screams history. There are some great beers and the food is very good backed up by super service. Well worth a visit with, of course, the world famous male toilets!!!
This is a must go pub in Liverpool. The ambiance is just AMAZING! The beer list is ordinary but food is great. Had the beef pie which tasted great! An obligatory stop in Liverpool!
Stunning beautiful old bar, great to relax and enjoy a pint in. We were in a group of 7 and got a seat in nice area, although the entire place is a nice area! The bar has lots of character and charm, with some little rooms to sit it or stand by the bar. Wide selection of ales and beers on tap too. Good selection of pub style food available and at a reasonable price. There are not many places left like this. A truly unique venue. Make sure to visit!
A very interesting pub to visit, as very elegant inside and it boasts very posh toilets for the men! It's on the sightseeing bus tour, so a good stop off. We had drinks and a club sandwich which were reasonably priced and tasty.
