Having gone to this university for 4 years (Ba + Masters) I can easily say that what you get here is not worth your money. I took a creative arts course and finished with top marks so please understand this isn’t from a place of anger but rather disappointment. Whilst staff are mostly friendly and kind, I found that many of my grades were based on the knowledge of the staff member grading your work. This wouldn’t be an issue but some of the staff were severely under trained on the subject they are teaching. This lead to grading favouring big and flashy projects over subtle and technical projects that the industry are looking for. Me and my friends our grew their ability to teach us new things by the end of the 1st year, which lead us to resort to using Google, YouTube and asking industry professionals via linked in for support with our projects. Classes became a waste of time and as a last resort we ended up having to start skipping them just to make use of the class time to use the on site facility’s for our work to better our own learning as it was faster and better for us. Half of the course was padded with something known as colabs, which is a part of the programme you are forced to do. It crams a bunch of different courses together and forces them to work as a team on projects, however very little thought goes into these teams so you end up with people who’s skills don’t work with each other at all. 90% of colabs projects from all teams where thrown together in about a week because it took 2 months to get the teams to be able to work together. As they were both unmotivated and unable to find connections between their working styles. You essentially feel like you are cramming a square into a circle hole and nobody has ever said they learnt something knew from colabs. All we gained is that we bonded over how much we hated it. Beyond this the teaching for these projects consisted of poring water on paper and ripping it up, strapping electing censors to your knees, then rubbing them on walls etc. (no this isn’t a joke) Entering into masters as a returning student you instantly experience the same thing as your are taught at a 1st year level which once again lead us to skip classes as they were pointless ( we had friends let us know what we missed and confirmed they were not worth us going to) From what we saw they also taught people the wrong material first and skipped over a lot of the needed basics for new students. This lead to nobody getting the correct teaching. During our masters we were taught by 50% staff who are not apart of the industry you’re training in so a lot of their experience was wasted on us and made grading once again very inconsistent leading for me to getting a 50% on my most technically challenging project vs a 90% on a project I threw together that was just visually flashy with no real substance, and no, you’re not allowed to request a review of your grade. Even when unfairly graded, the university will bend heaven and earth to deny a revision of a students grade as we saw with one of our friends who got screwed over by their bad website which didn’t correctly save the files she sent in before deadline, almost making her fail. All of this makes me believe I cannot recommend this university to anyone. I became the person they use to market my course to new students looking to study here, I’m in promotional emails, I’m on the home page for my course, student rep for 3 years and also ended up teaching first year students. Now that my time at mmu is over I feel as if I’m more of a marketing tool for them than a graduate they look to support. I’m spammed with calls asking me to fill out surveys or to help them run events on campus, they even want ask to show off my projects in their marketing and after telling them no, they still proceed to spam me with calls from new numbers as is the same for my friends. The best I got from this university was the time to learn. Though I could have saved up, took a 4 year break from work and had a very similar experience for free.

This uni has been my home. I am so glad I chose to study here. I will be so proud when I leave. My foundation course and then my undergrad and the staff have changed me profoundly and for the better. I love this uni.

Cons Severely understaffed. Not a research orientated university. Favouritism by staff can be observed & felt. Many courses may have more students enrolled than their capacity allows. Student union is unproductive, not helpful. Student support is poor, no healthcare facilities on campus, poor mental health support. Teaching quality is below average (many profs promote googling). Library is not upto the standards. Campuses are boring, lack facilities. Expensive education. Pros Variety of courses available Located in city centre Some professors take good efforts.

Manchester metropolitan university is top business school in uk. I thank them for giving me good education and scholarships to achieve my masters.

Seems like a dodgy selection procedure for staff. Even for senior positions as Cardiology professor, a generic copy and paste reply is given. Better to avoid it.

They care so little about the students wellbeing and what they struggle with. They care more about reducing the work that they have to deal with, which directly influences the students

The university is a joke. I am a current student and cannot wait to rid my life of this useless organisation. There is little to no reply when trying to communicate with staff, many show very little care about student wellbeing and the university is completely confusing in the way it projects itself and its values. I cannot wait to leave. I know many people from previous years who have dropped out because the uni is that bad and gives no help whatsoever. Do not be fooled by the empty promises they may advertise. They are lying to your face. Stay well clear.

The University is among the UK's leading Universities for study and research. It has a large campus with outstanding facilities providing students with high-quality courses and a great environment to improve their skills and capabilities. Additionally, there is great academic and personal support from lecturers and tutors. Recently, The Manchester Metropolitan University has been awarded a Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education. In 2022, the University's world-class new Institute of Sport which is currently under construction will also be ready. Manchester Metropolitan University is among the best European Universities.
