Went to see 'Merrily We Roll Along' musical performance. It was amazing. The venue is relatively new and well presented. The staff were even more impressive. Great venue. Will visit again.

I never expected that studying at college, something I used to enjoy. Would turn into such a stressful and uncomfortable experience. In my class, some rules were not college policies but were described as “the teacher’s own rules”. For example, during a 15-minute break, students were not allowed to go to the canteen even when I felt hungry. I was also repeatedly told to take off my jacket in class, despite feeling cold. These rules felt unnecessary and controlling, especially when they affected my basic comfort. When I raised how this made me feel, I was told these were simply rules set by the teacher. This made me feel powerless and restricted rather than supported as a student. Instead of feeling safe and encouraged to learn, I felt stressed, emotionally drained, and unwelcome. Over time, this environment affected my mental health and made it very difficult to continue studying. Education should be supportive and flexible, not something that makes students feel uncomfortable and trapped. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at The Manchester College.

Since I started attending this college in September, I’ve unfortunately been sick almost continuously. I strongly believe that one major reason is the poor cleanliness and the lack of proper ventilation throughout the building. First of all, the washrooms are often dirty and don’t seem to be cleaned regularly. There is also a noticeable amount of dust everywhere. When I try to use the computers, the layer of dust on the monitors is so thick that I can’t even see the details properly. Last week, my hair tie fell on the classroom floor, and when I came back a week later, it was still lying in the exact same spot. This clearly shows that the classroom was not cleaned at all during that time, which is extremely concerning. Although the building itself is beautiful and architecturally impressive, it lacks proper ventilation. There are more than a hundred windows visible from the outside, yet none of them open. During seasons when viral illnesses are common, fresh air is essential. We are more than willing to sit in class wearing coats if necessary, as long as we can breathe fresh air and know that the ventilation system is refreshing the environment and helping keep us healthy. I also notice that some of the younger students come to college wearing only T-shirts even in sub-zero temperatures. They may feel energetic and resilient because of their youth, but adult students and staff may react faster and more severely to poor air quality and indoor conditions. At the same time, I want to emphasize that I am very satisfied with my class and my teacher. The learning experience has been great, and I truly appreciate the effort and professionalism in the classroom environment. I also appreciate that the campus has excellent facilities and that it is very conveniently located near the metro station, which is a huge advantage for students. However, to fully enjoy these benefits, I need to be healthy, not struggling with constant illness caused by environmental conditions. A healthy learning environment is essential for students to take full advantage of everything the college has to offer. Considering that The Manchester College and UCEN Manchester together serve around 23,000 students, and City Campus alone accommodates thousands, maintaining higher standards of cleanliness and ventilation is not just expected, but absolutely necessary for the health and safety of everyone in the building. And honestly, even if you charged every student just two pounds a month for improved cleaning services — I personally would be willing to pay even more — you could easily upgrade the hygiene and maintenance standards across the campus. .
