I recently graduated from here, honestly worst two years of my life, there is absolutely no support for students with long term illnesses/ disabilities, or mental health conditions, a handful of teachers treat you like just a grade, and not an actual person. University was a godsend after studying here…..
Literally kicked me out without any warnings, ignored my appeal and didn’t give me a chance to explain why my attendance was low and what i was going through. terrible. no professionalism, even the jobs i’ve worked at were better.
I had a terrible experience with the college staff today. I went to enroll, but since I'm an international student without GCSEs, no one wanted to assist me. At Station 3, when I was finally called, the staff member asked for my GCSE scores. I explained that I didn’t have them but provided my completed college-level certificate from my home country instead. He then pointed me to another person and said they would handle it. However, that person outright said they didn’t want to deal with me. I was left standing awkwardly between them, with over 30 students in the hall watching the situation unfold. It was incredibly embarrassing. Eventually, they told me to sit at another table, saying someone else would assist me. I waited for nearly 25 minutes before anyone showed up. After wasting three hours, the staff member wrote "Applied Science L2" on my paper and directed me elsewhere. But when I finally got to the next station, another staff member told me that the college doesn’t even offer Applied Science L2. When I asked why the previous lady had written it, she had no answer. After more than four frustrating hours, I left the college completely disappointed. The service was absolutely useless.
I do not understand what kind of safety measures they have in place for students in the lab. Do the teachers not tell their students how to do a practical safely. My friend studies there and I did not see any safety precautions in place. Further more the teachers are not helpful when they should be helping the students every step of their journey.
Where to start, in short don't go here. I attended this collage a few years ago. Lessons where mostly handouts not much effort from the teachers in my subjects (IT, Business, Media, Accounting). In all fairness the Accounting course was okay. Aside from that... Students fighting with a knife and a brick at the entrance, the place caught fire that one time... My Business teacher was trying to justify having a 16 year old girlfriend despite being a year or two away from retirement. I wanted to swap my course from IT to Computer Science, was told that I can't because you get the same qualification at the end?? There is a HUGE difference between IT skills and Computer Science. The whole thing is so focused on getting you into a university you won't learn anything useful that you can use outside of an exam here. University is not a requirement and employers would rather you had experience than a degree in a subject totally unrelated to your job. My advice? Get an apprenticeship in a subject you enjoy, you'll actually lean a thing or two, gain experience and still gain the points you need to go to University if you wanted to.
We went to enroll my granddaughter there, we were there for only 1hour, the teachers there were great, very polite and went out of there way to help us and show us were we needed to go, and social distance was not a problem, plus they wore masks and there was hand sanitizer everywhere and antibacterial wipes. I felt well safe.
Salford City College have let me down. The teachers were mostly great with a few exceptions and the learning was useful for completing the courses I've studied but this has since been overshadowed by the Colleges incompetent "Income Officer". Back in October, there was an issue with my Student Finance application that required evidence. Around this time, the "Income Officer" threatened to kick me off the course because the college wanted me to pay the tuition fees. Obviously i'd applied with Student Finance for the tuition fees and needed to send them evidence so that the college would receive the tuition fees from them but more importantly, they wanted evidence so that I could get my money as I had no job and was relying on the maintenance loan. I submitted my evidence which was acknowledge by Student Finance at the start of November. Two weeks later, I received my money so naturally assumed that the College received their also as they required the same evidence for both Loans. The "Income Officer" never spoke to me again and never threatened to kick me off the course so I had no reason to question whether the college were being paid. The "Income Officer" had mentioned in October that they would have to kick me from the course before Christmas to prevent incurring further debt with the college as it costs £2500 per term and they don't want to be chasing students for a £7500 debt, however this same "Income Officer" AND Student Finance both neglected to inform me that the evidence I sent in was satisfactory for the maintenance loan but not the tuition loan. The College was supposed to be paid tuition loan instalments in October, February and May but despite this the "Income Officer" rings me in JULY to tell me that Student Finance never paid them and now I owe £7500. The very person that didn't want this situation to occur, allowed this situation to occur. This "Income Officer" despite this has since sent me the invoice and given me 30 days to find £7500 from an unemployed parent of a 19 month old who has survived only because of the maintenance loan. The "Income Officer" has threatened that the College will recover the debt by any means necessary. This whole debacle now prevents me from applying for finance for next years study which has made applying for courses next year pointless also. The whole situation has been out of my control and yet I am the one who is made to suffer through the incompetence and inaction of people who are employed to prevent this situation from occurring. Other than this, the college side of things was fine. Absolutely loved programming and the teacher for this unit. There was a teacher in the first year and a different teacher in the second year who were pretty useless at the teaching and marking side of their job roles. The onsite facilities are to be expected. The social life was poor simply because Computer Geeks like myself are typically shy and barely talk to one another let alone other students from other courses. I'd rate the overall teaching 3.5 out of 5 but this whole Student Finance and "Income Officer" issue is why I would advise all future students to avoid this establishment.
Wow - what an amazing college. Giving students the opportunity to get the best out of education and life. Check out the Animal Management and Vet Nursing facilities at Eccles' Sixth Form too. A 'zoo' in Salford - who knew?
A great college with expert teaching staff! Absolutely loved attending the Season of Shows productions where i got to see the amazing talent within the Performing Arts department.
