I love this school and I strongly disagree with these idiots saying that staff 'hurt them'. They were ensuring other people don't get harmed and make sure you don't harm yourself. You may think you were in the right, but in many cases you are just blinded by anger. I'd recommend this school

As with others I'm staying anonymous for my own privacy and safety. After unfortunately facing a lot of mistreatment in mainstream schooling I was sent here as a last resort when I was 12. The school puts on a friendly face to parents and visitors, but treats their students like prisoners behind closed doors. Any amount of student disobedience is punished harshly - my arms were grabbed and twisted to the point of bruising, and was pushed into a detached trailer in essential solitary confinement for fighting back against a student bullying me. I was also routinely shouted at and verbally abused by teachers for extremely minor things, including leaving part of my lunch and needing to leave class when I was having a panic attack. Physical restraint and verbal abuse are completely par for the course here, and many other students with autism and emotional needs got exactly the same treatment as I did. To any parents reading, I implore you to consider every single other option you can. The mainstream school system failed me, and this boot camp for aspies has crippled my already mentally ill brain with trauma I am still recovering from several years after I left. Please don't inflict the pain of this school onto your children.

I am using a fake name for privacy purposes (something that the staff at Rossendale never gave you (privacy is not something the staff gave you)) worst "school" ever. one teacher tried to "restrain" me whilst i was not even doing anything. you cannot have a private conversation and the kids all all very unhygienic. staff do not allow freedom and treat you like a prison. the playgrounds are tiny and its arguable if you would call it a playground. it takes about an hour to drive there and only taxi can pick you up/ drop you off. i have recently left but it was the worst school I've ever been. kids sending me death threats and school not dealing with it. will never go back since i've left about 12 months ago.

My son has attended Rossendale School for the last 18 months. I can not believe the difference in him. He has made so much progress in his time at rossendale and has built up good relationships with his key worker and key members of staff. He is making academic progress and there is a fantastic home/school relationship. The school support my son and us as a family and communication has been excellent. My son now has friends in school too and is encouraged to use and practice skills he is learning not only in school but in the community. The school is in a fantastic setting, calm and inviting which really benefits my sons need to be in a calm, quiet environment. It is a small school and that often benefits children who have ASD, ADHD etc due to the smaller class sizes and being able to familiarize themselves with their surroundings. A massive thank you to all the staff at Rossendale ❤

Disclaimer: I am concealing my identity for reasons that will become apparent later in the post. A little more than a year ago, I had a rough patch in my life where I was pushed put of a mainstream school because of the horrible headteacher I had at that place who probably couldn't stand my autism and recommended me this place called "Rossendale School". It seemed good at first. It has a headteacher with 30+ years of experience with children like me with complex needs anf has an alright location in north Bury, which is a reasonable distance to children in Greater Manchester and south Lancashire with nothing but rolling hills and sheep within vision (which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.). I went for a visit to this location and the actual site itself was absolutely tiny and somehow they managed to keep children from Primary all the way up to Year 11 at the place, having to hold lessons in trailers because the space was so little but the children were actually really nice though I have to admit but the teachers seemed as though they lacked soul or humanity like they don't like they're job or something. I had a meeting there with my mother and all they talked about was just business jargon and how "We'll get you in as soon as you can" despite it taking TWO MONTHS to actually get anywhere with it. At the end of it, they phoned my mum saying "We have a Sixth Form Centre we're going to put him in put him in because he's too smart for everyone else and your son can't go to the nice other building we have" which was insulting because in terms of work, I was in the middle of year 10 and hadn't even done a single GCSE paper yet. So we went to this "Sixth Form Centre" in the cold heart of Rawtenstall, near the dull brown houses (home to grumpy old people and "hippies"), a dodgy Asda and a dilapidated market where the grey, brick-shaped building takes hold on a steep hill. The atmosphere looked sterile and austere, like that of a hospital and the staff lacked attention and were as stiff and cold as a rock after rainfall and all of the pupils (who barely talked and look quite sad) and were apparently "proud" of being autistic by one of the teachers when one of the pupils corrected him saying they were "almost" proud. The recreation area was smaller than anything you could imagine. It was smaller than that of a prison courtyard (HMP Forest Bank for reference) and a tall fence overlooking the grim town centre. At least the food was nice, but again, if the only aspect about a school you like is the food, then there's something seriously wrong. My and my mother eventually fell out with them and I have found a much better school and I am feeling much better. In a nutshell, never bring your child here unless you want you child to have no childhood. There are much better schools out there.
