Wanted to try a chop house so popped in on the off chance of grabbing a table. Seated quick but waited a little longer to order. Was disappointed to see no chop options on the Sunday menu. Roast dinner was nice but could have been a bigger portion, hash was good but a little salty by the end of the meal. We were really surprised by the price of the drinks, Β£10 for a single gin and nearly Β£6 for a not great cask. Overall Β£60+ for 2 meals and 2 drinks. Itβs a nice place but wasnβt blown away for the price. Servers were lovely.

My uncle was visiting from Minnesota so we wanted to take him to a traditional pub and thought Tommyβs Chop house would be a great place for lunch. (We rarely treat ourselves). Tommyβs was fully booked but they directed us here, just round the corner, and Iβm so glad they did! Great atmosphere and the Lowry link was fabulous. I dredged up a book by Shelley Rohde from my deep distant memory, (we met her, and Lowry himself a few times when I was 5 years old as my dad was a journalist too). In that book, I think, sheβd written about this pub being Lowryβs favourite haunt. So it was quite interesting to stumble upon it. Food was beautiful, staff were lovely and all the photos & paraphernalia about Lowry, fascinating. Loved all the traditional decor and the statue at the bar too. (Like the one at the top of Mottram Moor just up the road from his old house. Heβs sat on the bench there). Thank you for our lovely time there.

My aim of this evening was to find some incredible English food that was high quality and had big flavours. I picked well! I enjoyed the lamb and harissa scotch egg, and finished with the beef hash. Thanks for the great service, and giving me a history lesson on the venue and food.

(Detailed review below) Food βββββ Ambiance βββββ Accessibility ββ Cost βββββ Service ββββ The bar area is great. Can get super busy (packed shoulder to shoulder) but it just goes to show how popular this place is. I'm a social drinker so my standards are pretty low but I was happy with the options available. Staff was attentive and friendly. The restaurant section is located just around from the bar and is a nice cosy place. It may feel like a tight space as well when all areas are fully seated but that may just add to the atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised by the rump steak that I had; perfectly seasoned and tasty although it was more medium than medium-rare that I had ordered (minor quibble). The beef gravy had a nice golden sheen and delicious. The peppercorn sauce was good but could have been a tad more pepperish. Although the restaurant wasn't full it did feel like it took a while for the kitchen to finally serve the food, so perhaps you may want to order some nibbles whilst you wait. Do note that the portions of the main meal are pretty generous so you may want to skip a course or two. Again, just minor issues and I would certainly come back again just for the steaks!

Unpretentious pub favourites done very, very well! Corned Beef Hash was delicious, and the Steak & Kidney pudding generously filled with large chunks of steak. Gravy was amazing and the most perfect, crisp but fluffy chips I think I've ever had in a pub. Sticky Toffee Pudding was the ideal size, beautifully presented and not at all stodgy (as can so often be the case). Creamy vanilla custard was the ideal accompaniment.

A charming little establishment, seemingly having seen various types of pub or eatery over the many years it has been open. The current landlords are doing a fine job with their Chop House. We had a (limited) 3 course menu to choose from, a la Wowcher, and the food was both tasty and plentiful. Neither of us could finish our mains or dessert, as delicious as they were. I'd definitely go back and try something from their full menu. Special shout out to the staff, inviting and friendly, they couldn't do enough to help and please.
