Extremely rude experience with a member of staff named ‘Olga’. I asked if someone would be available to serve at the till, to which she responded by aggressively grabbing my basket, almost dragging me to the self-service checkout. I said that it was too much stuff for the tiny self-service checkout and that I would prefer to be served at the till. The look on her face was as if I had personally attacked her, simply for asking if she could fulfil her duty as a member of staff. Every exchange thereafter was sharp and cold. Members of staff at this particular Sainsbury’s appear allergic to serving customers at a till. I’ve never known anything like it.

No one is ever at the tills, I've never waited less than 5 minutes to even find a staff member to help. And when the do arrive it's clear that shoppers are an inconvenience. DON'T BOTHER

You'd need to shop in here to really appreciate the atmosphere. Mostly self scan service . One depressed looking staff member behind anti social plastic barrier counter. Everyone milling around like lost ants. Resident begging persons sitting on a damp blanket outside the door. Security guard who looks like he's spent the last 6 years sleeping rough .Just great.

If you shop here and want anything but the self-service tills (or, for example, products that need ID), you have to walk around the aisles and find a staff member to help because there is never anybody on the checkout. They then look at you like YOU'RE inconveniencing THEM, tell you they'll come in a minute, then walk extremely slowly with the attitude that it's all a big effort. The staff spend their entire shifts chatting to each other through the walkie talkies which is extremely unprofessional - especially when they're serving you. I'm not one to complain and I don't expect staff to be perfect, but this is by far the worst I've come across. The vast majority have a really poor attitude and seem to think the whole thing is one big joke. In fairness, there is a middle aged lady - I don't know her name - who is lovely. Always smiles; always says 'morning'; and is always polite, so thank you to her. But other than that, it really is bad and happens daily. The difference between the staff and service here vs the co-op next door is night and day. The manager needs to get a grip, do some staff training, and use the walkie talkies for what they're meant to be used for (which FYI is not telling each other about what you did last night or the PlayStation game you've been playing). Unfortunately, though, the manager behaves in the exact same way, so I guess that won't be happening any time soon... P.s. for the love of God, fix the freezers - it's been months now. Thanks

I’ve been a regular customer at Sainsbury’s in Crookes for over two years now, living nearby on Heavygate Road. Despite its convenience, I feel compelled to finally share my ongoing frustrations with this store. This review is not based on a single bad experience. it’s the result of consistent poor treatment and disappointing service over a long period. Unlike the Walkley Sainsbury’s, where staff are consistently friendly, helpful, and welcoming, the Crookes branch feels cold and uninviting. There’s a noticeable lack of basic customer service here. Smiles are rare, staff interactions are curt at best, and in some cases, borderline rude. On multiple occasions I’ve been made to feel like an inconvenience rather than a customer. Simple questions are met with eye rolls, dismissive tones, or outright indifference. It's not just a bad day or a one-off issue. This kind of attitude seems baked into the culture at this store. Whether it’s the checkout staff, the self-checkout supervisors, or even those stocking the shelves, there’s a clear lack of courtesy and professionalism. It’s surprising, considering this is a well-established chain known for quality service elsewhere. In stark contrast, the Walkley branch sets a great example. The atmosphere there is far more positive, the staff are always polite and accommodating, and you genuinely feel like your custom is appreciated. I now go out of my way to shop there when I can, even though Crookes is closer. If anyone from Sainsbury’s management reads this, I urge you to investigate. If necessary, I’m willing to provide specific details and dates to back up my claims. It’s time someone took responsibility for this the poor service standards at this location. Your customers deserve better

Not bad, friendly staff, more expensive than others presumably because it's 'local'

Self checkout machines have been broken for over NINE months since February. On the volume control there is only the option to increase the volume and not to decrease or mute it.
