Been waiting a year for my operation with orthopaedic/plastic surgeons and now looks like it won’t happen.so not very happy with the outcome .very disappointed.
Got referred her as my partner injured his knee playing rugby. Went to Minor Injuries at Royal Hallamshire where he got an x ray and diagnosed broken fibula, then referred for a next day appointment at the Fracture Clinic here at Northern General. The appointment started in time, we were referred for an MRI appointment and had a knee brace and crutches fitted then-and-there. We have now had an MRI, diagnosis of no ligament damage fortunately and a follow up appointment for rehab in a few weeks. Total turnaround time of 9 days so incredibly impressed with the service we received. We had made it clear that my partner is currently unemployed and would be unable to start a new sports coaching job until the injury was treated, so we appreciated that they treated it with the urgency we needed. My only complaint is when we had the appointment, one specialist did the different checks/tests in my partners knee and said the same as we’d been told at Minor Injuries - bone was broken but it didn’t seem like any ligament damage but would get an MRI just to be safe. This specialist was very friendly and helpful with our questions. However suddenly 2 suited-and-booted doctors came in, didn’t introduce themselves and repeated the tests on my partners knee. Very bluntly said there must definitely be ligament damage and likely ACL tear as you “never” get these injuries without it. I appreciate that they don’t want to get people’s hopes up and would rather be cautious, but just the lack of bedside manner here was a bit odd considering how stressful and upsetting it is to have those injuries for people who play sports. We now know there is no ligament damage fortunately Overall very impressed with the quality and speed of service, but some of the doctors/specialists could perhaps work on bedside manner.
