   ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Located in the heart of Brightlingsea, this Silversmith and Jewellery School is something really special. With Karen at the helm it’s run like a tight ship—fully equipped with every tool you could imagine (and more!). The tutors travel from far and wide to share their expertise, but honestly, what Karen doesn’t know isn’t worth knowing. The school has such a welcoming atmosphere, and the setting is wonderful too—with hip restaurants, a friendly pub, and sea views across the estuary. A perfect place to learn, create, and be inspired.

   I recently took part in a three-day beginner’s jewellery workshop at Bench Space, and it was a brilliant experience from start to finish. Kitty, our tutor, was incredibly kind, patient, and generous with her knowledge. She managed to give each of us individual attention and support, even with nine people in the room, and did so with calmness, warmth, and real encouragement. On the final day, Karen joined us after a long day working at an outdoor event, in the middle of a summer heatwave. Despite that, she brought energy, humour, and super skilled hands-on support, helping everyone get across the finish line with their pieces. Both Kitty and Karen created a genuinely positive and welcoming environment where it felt safe to try new things and ask questions. I left feeling inspired, more confident, and really proud of what I had made. I would highly recommend this workshop (or any of the many others they offer) to anyone looking to learn jewellery making in a thoughtful, well-supported, and friendly space.

   What an amazing experience making my first piece of jewellery! Karen is not only super knowledgeable in all things metal smithing but also a patient and kind teacher. It was amazing to see that plain silver strip be transformed into my very own designed silver ring under her expert guidance. The workshop is set up perfectly for small group sessions, ensuring Karen is on hand to give advice and support as necessary. I would highly recommend her jewellery courses to anyone and can't wait to return to create another masterpiece!

   My first time at BENCHspace was to make a simple hammered ring and I was hooked. Karen was an excellent teacher and, although keeping safety in mind at all times, made it a fun and informative experience. I now have just completed the level 1 beginners course and cannot recommend BENCHspace enough. Kitty was very patient and made it all so achievable and fun. Already looking to book level 2.

   I have done this course in January and often look back on how enjoyable it was. Karen is so knowledgable and let´s you explore any idea imaginable (She has all the tools you can come up with).    Karen knows her stuff, and I really enjoy going to her lessons. I have been to the beginners course, intermediate course and have learnt alot of skills. Karen has enabled me to turn a regret of not going into higher education silversmithing into a reality where I can choose to independantly work at home in my own time. I fully recommend the courses Karen offers and also her day courses as you will go home with something lovely each time.

We had a wonderful time! Karen is super knowledgeable and easy to be around - we never felt rushed. We both came away with beautiful personalised rings, and for a very reasonable price! Would absolutely recommend.
