A charming little museum about the history of the city. The section about George Orwell's time in the city is particularly interesting. Admission is free.
Museum is OK but a little small , but the archives upstairs are much more interesting. Free use of Ancestry too. Helpfull staff and loads of historical records to look at.
Very informative and interesting local life displays. Free to enter, helpful lady on the desk. Fantastic reference library upstsirs including national data too, accessible via a lift or stairs, could easily spend a few hours researching. I was only visiting Wigan for the day but well worth the visit.
I was passing Wigan on the M6 and decided to pop into town for lunch. Came across the museum by accident and what a delightful place it is. The building itself is beautiful inside and out and the displays are excellent. Everything from the Egyptians to life (the good old days) of living in and around Wigan and the UK itself. I especially loved the upstairs and the reference centre that would not look out of place at a top uni or college. The staff here have done an amazing job and the people of Wigan should be proud of this little museum with a big personality. Above all it is entirely free to mooch around for hours.
Small but has interesting exhibits and temporary exhibitions. Upstairs library is fascinating.
Went for the Chinese New year celebrations. Lots of activities to do and the Chinese dragons dancing was amazing.
One of my favourite places to sneak off to. Always a great experience and exhib.
Lovely friendly people who work at this place , The museum was built by the same person who built the town hall in Manchester and the natural history museum as a library
Brilliant! You won't spend all day inside but it's worth a visit if you're in the town centre. Loads of rugby stuff, pictures old medals shirts! A must for the Rugby fans!
