Great gym, huge inside and a lot of equipment that was clean and modern. The changing rooms were in good condition and also the pool. Great facilities having the large warm pool and the steam room and sauna. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was quiet which made the experience much nicer

Friendly staff, a good variety of machines and free weights. The Total Fitness–branded machines aren’t the best, but overall the facilities are excellent. I visited on a day pass so I can’t comment on the pricing, but I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I would highly recommend this gym.

Even one star is too generous for this gym. They talk to you very nicely when signing you up for a 12-month contract, but once your contract ends they suddenly say “Don’t worry, you can cancel anytime,” while never mentioning the mandatory 1-month notice period — not at the start, not at the end — and they happily charge you for that extra month without informing you. On top of that, the staff situation is a disaster: some employees clearly love their job, while others look like they can’t stand being there — no smile, no courtesy, and rude behaviour. Save yourself the disappointment. DON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE !!

Genuinely have no idea why people would attend Total Fitness Chester? GYM: no better than Gym Group / Pure Gym, maybe a little quieter but older equipment than those 2, plus new JD gym opening nearby. Also considerably more expensive. Staff / Pricing: Very old fashioned and sleezy feel to it's pricing structure, one of / the most expensive gym in the area, aggressive sales tactics, add on prices needed to access many of the services (Childrens swimming extra, Small classes cost more etc.) Classes: If your main focus is classes, you'll get better quality from FACTR, BABE Fitness etc. - Very difficult to book total fitness classes (Many booked 1 week in advance) puregym etc. also always has space in their classes so no need to worry about planning 5+ days in advance. Pool: The only reason you should consider it over JD Gym, Pure Gym, Fit Group, FACTR etc. is because it has a pool, and honestly once northgate opens up again this won't be a selling point. The pool is OK, overall poorly maintained, changing rooms are grotty with bugs, the whole thing feels super dated. They also sold the parking to a third party company (not sure why, you can see via land registry they own it) so expect a hefty fine if you stay too long.

Pretty well equipped gym. Currently no queues or waits for machines. Organised classes are excellent as is the pool although there has been considerable work carried out on the wet area resulting in limited access on occasions

Hydro pool is always freezing! It’s the same temperature as the main pool! It’s ment to be a hot tub. Steam room and the saunas Are always broken! Or one Is closed every day they are cost cutting but still charging us full price. I no this for a fact as I’ve been to 4 other total fitness clubs And all the members are not happy as same issues. And I asked a member of staff if they are trying to save money he declined to answer the question. If you complain nothing gets done about it. Avoid try another club.

Discusting gym . Run by money minded people . Changing rooms filthy and discusting , un cleaned for days and when complain just told what to do there is no cleaning staff , signed up for a month and the steam room had been closed for 25+ days , hydro pool is always cold , sauna either too hot too cold , showers filthy and shower gels constantly empty , eauioment in the upstairs gym is laughable , rusted , seized up , broken , falling apart , filthy You end up leaving after each visit just more and more annoyed and wondering what you’re paying for …. 90% of the staff are useless they don’t have a clue what’s going on or care about the place membership people will sell you a dream and the above is what you will get . Come and see for yourself haha

I’m only two weeks in and really disappointed in this gym. Some of the equipment is really tired, the classes aren’t the best, the timings of the classes aren’t great with many of them being during the day when most people are working, the hydro pool is too cool to stay in very long, steam room been broken twice. I just had tonight what I was told would be a free personal training session for signing up but was just someone showing me how to use the weights. They turned up late and their knowledge wasn’t great. They keep pushing the squad classes which you have to pay extra for. I really wished I had joined the Hilton now instead for the same price but am now stuck here for 12 months.

Unfortunately it looks like the equipment have stopped being maintained and replaced some time ago. Most of them seem to have parts missing or rust and even the carpets are torn in places and unclean. I would be happy if this was a £20-30 neighbourhood gym, but it’s not what I expected from a premium gym charging £60 a month. October ‘22: My previous review needed updating. Management have taken recent feedback seriously and have undertaken a significant refurbishment and renovation project. The whole place now looks modern and clean, with old carpets replaced by laminate flooring and modern elastic surfaces. A lot of new equipment has been purchased and (most of) the older equipment has been repaired. Well done!

I was a member for 3 years whilst living in Chester, and the friendly staff made my experience at the top facility in Chester so much better. If you're looking for a place with great pool and other facilities with wide range of activities, would highly recommend the Total Fitness gym!
