I used to live in Worsley, 1965 to 1980 and was just across the road to the Worsley woods, which encompasses The Old Warke Dam with the Aviary situated on the banks. I was on a rare visit to Manchester and I made a point of stopping off to have a walk round. I drove down the track past my old school, St Marks as I remembered there was a car park at the end next to the entrance to the Aviary. Unfortunately it has been closed off within the last 45 years but there was just enough room to park. It was a lovely and nostalgic walk around the dam with a noted addition of a pier like structure extending into the dam. I also learned some history by reading the information board. I had always believed the dam was constructed to maintain the level of water in the canal but it appears not. Every day a school day eh? I walked past the Lodge which was much different to when I used to know the family there in the 70s. I liked it more when it was original but tastefully ruined I guess. The paths are mostly flat and a large percentage is either tarmacked or crushed stone and accessible although if doing the whole circuit then the the return round, towards the back of the Aviary is not suitable for a wheelchair or those with moderate mobility issues. A fabulous hours stroll, in beautiful weather, must make a note to come back sooner, I doubt I will have another 45 years!

Nestled amidst the woods, this stunning spot boasts a beautiful house on the far bank and abundant birdlife. It captivates children and nature lovers with its scenic paths, leading to a jetty for intimate encounters with ducks and swans. While lacking benches and bins, the place offers educational boards, delightful views, and ample wildlife to observe and feed. Note: No nearby toilets. A charming destination for all to enjoy.

Just a gorgeous spot in the middle of the woods. Beautiful house on the far bank and good for bird life. Paths mainly along one side and the top end with a jetty offering some good close ups to the ducks and swans. Really good for kids and wildlife alike.

Great short walk - about an hour or two - that brings you through a wood. If you like flat and a walk that families and older people could do, it is really worth the travel to get to.

Lovely walk as part of the Worsley Village Circular. It is quite calm, good for children, dogs and anyone who wants some air! The building looks beautiful from across the water. There is a play park too.
