Noir - more than just a Florist. So whilst walking to the Boat House for lunch we visited 'Noir' for the first time. The visit was anything but planned, but it seemed rude on such a beautiful day to walk on by [Dionne Warwick's song now playing loudly in my head]. Noir occupies the old Co-op premises on Coach Road. Having said that that old grocery store has been banished to the history books as the new façade looks nothing like the dreary old shop - a good start. To be precise the old Co-op is now two businesses as the building has been cleverly divided info a florist on one side and a restaurant/cafe on the other. Internally there is a picture window allowing patrons to see the adjoining business. The furniture and decor is contemporary with the feel of a New York loft - the fire surround and wood burner are a nice touch. Carrying on with the New York theme, situated in front of the counter is sofa and coffee table that look and feel like they came from the set of 'Friends.' [Note: I'm so happy that Noir resisted the urged to call itself 'Central Perk'; that would have been predictable, cheesy and a bit common. Beside, the kids today have no clue what Friends was - Matt Le Blanc is better known for Top Gear! Bizarrely I now have 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac playing my head - I know it's F1 not Top Gear]. Back to the review... The menu is varied enough to keep one's interest but not so detailed that it takes an age to decide what to have - everything was competitively priced. I ordered a latte whilst relaxing on the sofa - Gunther wasn't available so our drinks were delivered by a charming lady who had a huge smile on her face, nice to see. The drinks, setting and atmosphere were great, we'll be back for breakfast soon. We'll done Noir. Update April 2023: See Noir Brasserie and Wine Bar.

I ordered a chicken ceaser salad . It was far removed from what a ceaser salad should be. It had peppers tomatoes cucumber onions apple and mixed lettuce leaves and cold packet chicken. No sign of a romaine lettuce or warm Chicken breast. Very disappointing

Phoned to book a table but they don't take bookings. Told ots quiet so should have no problems. Wrong, all tables taken and very noisy. Don't think we will try again.

Such a shame, had a lovely breakfast but will not be going again due to the attitude of staff. Booked a table for 7 people, 6 turned up, after spending £64 they tried to say they was keeping the deposit we had paid for the person who hadn’t turned up. I could understand this if we had booked a table for 7 people and only 2 people turned and just had a pot of tea, but the fact it was only one person and we had spent £64 is a joke. This was never made clear when we booked it and then they tried to argue a point that we should have gave them 48 hours notice, however this was not possible as we had only booked the table an hour before we arrived. Thought this would be a nice treat for my mum seeing as it was her birthday, but the attitude of the staff, slamming things around and speaking to customers the way she did was appalling, will not go here again.

Amazing food and drink options, including vegan options and many cakes. The place is decorated lovely and suitable for a quick breakfast/ dinner stop or an afternoon out with friends. Staff were friendly and no issues with service. Will be visiting again.
