Mattersey hall itself is a great place to engage yourself in following Jesus, seriously. The training that they offer was outstanding and they do teach the correct information about how to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, rather than just a 'luke warm' believer. All the staff are very knowledgeable! When I first arrived at Mattersey the students were extremely warm and welcoming, however I have to be honest, they are not fully surrendered to God and following the narrow path in this place. I feel a lot of them were there for a shelter socialising and meals. The few women that were residents there were unkind catty and did not make me feel welcome. I got upset about this many times during my stay there. The ceo i initially thought was led by the Holy Spirit. I came to know it was a show that had been practised a lot. The ceo's wife was VERY patronising and once said to me "i think you need to be baptised" patronizingly, and made me shocked by her behaviour and i mentioned this to residents. The residents proceeded to say "oh thats just her" and excused her rude comments. I hate to say this, but the ceo and his wife were superficial and concerned with their image. They are also not aware of the very real war in the spirit realm and how that the devil works through people, and many of them there were not engaging with Holy Spirit to level that I was while I was there for a short period of time. They did not grasp the inportance of spiritual warecare. A coupe of female residents, one who was abrupt and blunt i felt was rude to me. Long story, she raised her voice at me and i felt upset and responded, genuinely in an approriate way. She reported me was taken in to meeting my side of the story was heard which was good. And unfortunately there on continued to be friction from her. Then the ceo called me to a meeting and said he wanted me to leave because quote "my mental health, was triggering other people. Now i have a mental illness but it was held against me and out of context. The staff ushered me out that day, got me to pay for my 5 hour train journey home. They certainly were not concerned about my mental health. I had to leave loads of stuff behind as i could not carry it on the train. The support worker was there for the social, and looked at me strange when i asked for genuine guidance. The support worker said to a resident who came with us to drop me at the station said, "lets quickly pray for emily before she goes". It was the most heartless and un holy spirit led prayer, and i didint feel a thing. Unorgansed and repeatly unhelpful to get my belonings back after. My friend drove me there 3 and a 1/2 hours to collect. When i went in the office months later to collect stuff ceo was ovbiously patronising and i could tell i had left unsettled feelings there, as i called the staff and residents out for their behaviour just before i left. My body was uncontrobably nerous and shaky upon going back, as it was traumatising the way Christians treated me.
