Puzzles day nursery I am writing to formally express my disappointment and concern regarding the treatment I received during my visit to your nursery, which was intended to assess whether your facility would be a suitable place for my child, who has a disability. Upon arriving on time for the scheduled visit, I was immediately met with a cold and unwelcoming attitude from your staff. The manner in which I was approached was both unprofessional and dismissive. What was most concerning was that the staff appeared to have no understanding or knowledge of the fact that a member of Birmingham City Council was accompanying us, in support of my child’s condition. This lack of awareness was both shocking and disappointing, especially as I had made clear in advance that my son has a disability and that we were expecting the necessary support. Furthermore, the staff and management at the nursery were not only impolite but also made statements suggesting that they might not have space for my child, despite me presenting the email confirming that a placement had been offered by your own organization. This was an unnecessary waste of both my time and my son’s, especially considering the clear miscommunication and lack of professionalism on your part. What made this situation even more concerning was the noticeable body language of your staff, which suggested a reluctance to engage with us. My son’s support teacher, who works with Birmingham City Council and was present during the visit, observed the interactions and shared my concerns that the treatment we received seemed discriminatory. It appeared as though my son and I were being treated with indifference or even disdain simply because of our background and ethnicity. It is incredibly disheartening to encounter such behaviour in this day and age, especially when we are seeking a nurturing and inclusive environment for a child with special needs. The experience left me feeling marginalized and disrespected, and I am appalled by the attitude displayed by your team. I strongly urge you to address this matter internally and ensure that your staff receive proper training on professionalism, inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity. No parent or child should have to experience such treatment when seeking care and education for their child. I look forward to hearing how you plan to resolve this issue.
