An amazing Messiah at Lingfield last night! Superb singing and staging and a completely new perspective on the work. Do see it if you can for a profound and exciting experience.
I also saw the production of Die Fledermaus at Winchester this-evening. I and my two daughters thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the show, the singing, the acting and the comedy. And a special mention for the pianist who performed brilliantly and provided a few musical jokes of her own.
I have just seen Die Fledermaus at the Theatre Royal in Winchester. The cast delivered a brilliant performance and I can't praise them highly enough.
Went to see The Magic Flute at the Sarah Thorne Theatre Broadstairs yesterday 11th Feb 2024 The production was outstanding the cast must have been exhausted by the end . Really enjoyed the way they adapted to the cast they had it was excellent the only thing that disappointed me was the omission of one of the duets by Papageno and Papagena . Now looking forward to your next Broadstairs performance when ever that is . France Turner
The Merry Opera Company came to St Mildred’s Church in Tenterden on 18 November 2023. What an amazing and enlightening evening. 12 operatic voices filled the church. No sound systems needed here!! The staging of the piece is wonderful - synchronised movements enhancing the words they are singing. I will always remember the gentle cradling of the ‘baby’, and how he was carefully passed from women to men, and then to members of the audience. Stunning. If you haven’t seen this version of The Messiah, please track them down and get a ticket!
We have just been to see the first performance of Cinderella in Oxsted, it was so entertaining and all the cast played and sung there parts brilliantly. Well done.
Beraing in mind the obvious financial restrictions of the production it was an excellent performance. The singing, all round was superb and the four musicians were as good as could be expected bearing in mind the obvious limitations. However, whilst I enjoyed most of the humour that was mainly directed at the production limitations , I did feel the use of slapstic was misplaced in the final act where the statue of the Commendatore arrived to carry out Giovanni's retribution wearing a giant Teddy Bear Outfit was unnecessqry and inappropriate humour aimed at trivialising the Opera itself. I do feel I have some right to judge after some 45 years of opera watching including half a dozen or so live Giovanni productions.
This is an amazing group of musicians who always give a wonderful rendition of messiah that both Handel and his Higher Authority would approve.
A production of Handel's Messiah at Peartree Church on May 4th! Just blew me away, an incredible experience and if you get an opportunity to see it - go.
