Having been recommended Winstanley College by a friend whose two children attended and left recently both with an A/A/A* we recently attended the open day with our Son. It was absolutely incredible. Such an amazing campus with the distinctive feel of a small university. The staff were all so welcoming, kind and enthusiastic. What impressed us most was all the student ambassadors there on the day. Overwhelmingly they were so polite and confident. They really couldn’t speak highly enough about the college. Clearly a really special place.

If it's anything still like the time I went here, seriously AVOID at all costs- it gives off snotty , privileged vibes. Unless you're dreaming of going to Oxford or Cambridge, they'll completely disregard those who get grade C's, offering no other pathway options/support, which leads to isolation and loneliness. Their so called 'reputation' is based off prioritizing the students that achieve the highest grade- absolutely nothing to do with their teaching. Furthermore, the whole personal tutor thing was excessive and unnecessary, with teachers making biased, offensive reports about you on a traffic light system. Their coffee/food was overpriced and you could never get a seat in the computer room. Finally, at the time their buses were linked with St John Rigby so absolutely heaving and dropped Winstanley College students off about 45 mins too early in a morning which left us absolutely knackered. However, Orrell Water Park and the Chinese down the road was the only saving grace for the worst 2 years of my life. Life really does get better after not coming here.

Not enough seats, too many students, no working support, lots of harsh teachers especially to those struggling, multiple mental health incidents with fellow classmates who haven't received support, horrible systems, don't stick to promises with their subjects, they say things about subjects and change them for the worst last minute, changing subjects is incredibly difficult and the transport systems to get into the college aren't working well enough for everyone to get into college every day. Food is far too expensive and difficult to get, especially for those who don't have a free lesson before lunch. Far too many computers don't work and the teachers are often given too mant classes to work on each students development. There's also far too much homework, 265 minutes per week might be alright if it weren't for people with 4 subjects, EPQs, or even a one year course who have to do extra and are given even less breaks to do them in. The extra curriculum activities aren't as good as the college claims and often they get cancelled or changed around. Some toilets don't flush, and most equipment is faulty. Don't even get me started on the WiFi!!! It doesn't work at all for many of us and even my own teachers complain about it. Despite how many students complain about it not working and how much the college claims to pay for it, it hasn't improved at all. The quiet study areas don't work. I hate those areas and struggle to find places to study. I can't stand silence and I know that many other people here agreed with me on this, silent study is hard to focus in. We need areas where we can study that has enough seating and computers that isn't completely silent. Also there's only two vending machines, both are overpriced and break all the time. If anyone struggles with any kinds of mental health issues or neurodivergance I would say don't come here.

Awful college. Extremely poor standard of teaching. Timetables are absolutely shocking. Teachers for designated subjects off for extended period of times with no like for like substitute teacher or any substitute teacher at all which the college didn’t care about just so long as the student turned up, registered that they attended. Teachers in I.T were terrible. Nothing being taught just handed out sheets and told to follow them whilst the teacher sat at the desk and did nothing. Subject areas were often repeated with the teacher having no track of what work had or hadn’t been done. We had to mark our own test sheets and no feed back given if answers were wrong just told to “shut up” Students from other lessons would often walk into the I.T classes unchecked and would mess about whilst the teachers would allow this. I ended up being self taught and criticised if I was too far ahead. DO NOT ATTEND THIS COLLEGE

Random account for anonymous review. Going to this college was a waste of two years (I attended during the covid years to bare that in mind). I had one amazing tutor who actually listened and cared for their students. The others were shocking (we had to get higher ups involved with one). If you don’t plan going to university do not attend this college, they only care about university goers. In addition, useless tutor lessons which take up a while of your free period once a week, harsh rules, expensive shocking food, irregular and poorly executed buses which left me stranded with no way home multiple times and poor resources. Go to St John rigby instead, wish I did.

had a traumatic first day, was greeted by some nice people but instantly strange things happened, i saw a pupils arsecrack a few mins after being greeted i thought nothing of it and carried on with my first day little did i know the worst was yet to come, i needed to go to the restroom and i saw a massive log in one of the toilets, i wasnt pleased at all and thought it was heavily disgusting i told some of the staff and they done nothing about it which is disgusting, i wasn't pleased at all with my experience and wouldn't recommend this college to any sort of student.

It was an alright place. Nice teachers, decent facilities, but have to go way too far away to smoke. Came out with 3 B's in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Not been to any other colleges so can't compare.

This place was a lot of hard work, but honestly with how much I just enjoyed being here on a daily basis so much that it never really got to me. Had some rough patches, but honestly my mental health has been consistently bad through highschool and to university so I can't blame Winstanley for them. I went into here with majority 5's and 6's from my GCSE's, I didn't even meet the gcse minimum, I was short 1 point, but there was still room so I got in. I left with A* A's and a B, which is much higher than I was ever expected to, and this is fully thanks to Winstanley everyone there was lovely, including both teachers and students. I would absolutely recommend this college
