   I believe something very strange is going on with the ownership and structure of these firms. According to local news reports, Brown Turner Ross became the new owners of the previously known Formby Law, but I can't see any clear signs of a proper takeover. It’s unclear how the transition occurred, and it raises more questions than answers. Brown Turner Ross, by their own accounts, appear to be in a poor financial position themselves, which makes it difficult to understand how they could afford to expand. Companies House still lists Brian Whitfield as the significant shareholder of Formby Law, despite him working as a consultant solicitor at Brown Turner Ross Ltd for some time. This doesn't seem to align with the reported ownership changes. Even more confusing is that Formby Law still has a registered charge over its address, yet it is listed as no longer in business, though it remains active on Companies House. Additionally, a new company called Whitfield Legal Consultancy Limited (Company Number: 15412713) has been set up with Brian Whitfield as the director, incorporated on 15th January 2024. The company is listed as active, but the connection to Formby Law and Brown Turner Ross is unclear. The address for the new company is listed as Elm Lodge, Elbow Lane, Formby, Merseyside, L37 4AF. Overall, these discrepancies raise a lot of red flags and make it very hard to follow what is actually happening behind the scenes.

   Further update: This firm is no longer taking new clients and its current clients will be given the opportunity to move to a firm that they’ve made a deal with. Just letting other clients know in case someone gets forgotten and resorts to writing a Google review like I did. Terry got in touch after my review below and Katie provided an update yesterday. Staff will keep their jobs and the new firm has committed to complete all cases. Update: Have chased twice since my previous review. No response. The leasholder is saying this case is dragging on so long that they’ll want me to pay for an updated valuation soon. Basically, using Formby Law is about to cost me money for nothing. Not recommended!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s really gone downhill since Brian left. Andrew was ok last time, but slow this time. Clare was ok for ten minutes but has now gone too!! Previously: Very slow. Previously very good but my lease extension is taking forever and it’s such a straightforward case - it’s always up to me to chase. My solicitor left and I only found out through chasing them. The new one seemed to be on form but now she’s gone silent too. Time for another email to chase them…

   It’s taking 6 month for a sale to go through. Still not completed. Only 2 of us in a chain, our purchasers are in rented and their mortgage offer expires in less than 2 weeks time, we could loose the sale. No calls or email replied, worst company I’ve ever dealt with, would not recommend, do but waste your money, more importantly save yourself the stress and go do your research. This company was recommended to me, never again!! Shocking, unprofessional, they tell you they have been working on your case, but then you find out the solicitor who has been working on it for 6 months, has left and done nothing and she’s not accountable!!. Although raised it numerous times with higher management, just keep getting lip service to get you off the phone!

   We really really cannot recommend Formby Law enough. We have had the most pleasant experience with the team, it's been amazing. We're first time buyers so we were very unsure of the process and what was needed of us. The deadlines seemed quite tight but with Formby Law we were hitting the deadlines days before. I had a vision that this would be quite a stressful process but honestly we have had no stress whilst using Formby Law. They eased us through the process and supported us throughout. Honestly please don't hesitate to use Formby Law, they are absolute professionals and the kindness and humanness you feel from them is exactly what's needed when going through something potentially stressful as moving. From us both thank you, thank you for everything you did and made possible on tight deadlines. Thank you for making this such a pleasant experience.
