Dan has looked after me all the way through the pandemic with much care due to some health issues. I have had several trips with Dan to Wales, Cheshire and Chester. Prices were reasonable communication great and Dan takes care of everything.
I've been a regular customer of Hackney Direct for over a year-- always happy with their service, and happy to recommend them. Until last week. I'm absolutely shocked by the lack of empathy their dispatcher displayed towards me in the middle of a medical emergency. I called requesting a cab to the hospital, which I was told would be with me shortly. This was an emergency, and I'm heavily pregnant. As I waited, a relative called another company as time was of the essence, and this was unfortunately a time of peak traffic and the school rush. I hadn't received a call back from Hackney Direct, but a taxi from another company arrived in front of my door. I called Hackney Direct apologising, saying that I had to take the cab in front of me, and that a family member would be out to pass some money to the driver for his trouble (which subsequently happened.) The dispatcher was completely disinterested in the fact that I was a heavily pregnant woman trying to get to the hospital urgently in rush hour, and just kept going on about the inconvenience of getting a driver to my part of the Wirral from Birkenhead. He asked me to wait while he verified where the driver was (again, the clock was ticking in an emergency), then let me know the driver had just arrived. I hadn't received any call or indication that he was nearby, but I did indeed see the car, around the corner from my entry, as I was driving away. The dispatcher then insisted I get out of my cab and into his driver's car or be barred from the service. My family member compensating the Hackney Direct driver for his trouble wasn't enough-- this company literally gave me the ultimatum to switch cabs and give them the fare in the middle of an emergency trip to the hospital. I have no words, and really never expected this from a company that I had nothing but excellent previous experiences with. But the lack of empathy and complete disregard for the urgency of a medical situation is appalling.
Absolutely disgusting company! I used them all the time then my child was sick so I cancelled thinking they wouldn't want a child with sick all over him but just got a load of abuse down the phone DO NOT USE THEY ARE RUDE AND HORRIBLE
Called a taxi to do our Christmas food shop, our jack Russel had an arterial bleed as the taxi was on its way, the driver didn't hesitate to take us to the vets with our dog, great service

Absolutely disgusting what has just happened to myself. I was booking a taxi with wheelchair access for an elderly resident. Was told 5 minute wait, i asked for a rough quote so I knew how much money would be needed and he said sorry I haven’t got anything for you and put the phone down. Absolutely disgraceful and should be ashamed!
I cannot thank Mark Smith from this company enough. We were stranded at Arrowe Park hospital with my 92yr old dad after he attended an appt today. He is wheelchair bound and has onset dementia. We were told that no taxis, from a number of companies that we contacted would be able to pick us up for over 2hrs. We had understood that the company that dropped us off would be able to pick us up. This sadly was not the case. Mark from Hackney Direct came to our rescue. He came out himself as he did not want to let any clients down. He treated dad with kindness, respect and took great care getting him in and out of the cab. Sending Mark a huge thank you. * I have asked that this company is recommended to any staff members, family, or friends of residents at the care home should they ever require a taxi service.
Great service for wheelchair users. Just a pity they don’t provide a service before the school runs. Friendly staff willing to help
