   Totally unprofessional, didn’t deliver on timescales agreed, communication poor and lied about tech issues when they hadn’t completed basics such as setting up agent permission. Company accounts delivered 6 weeks late meaning I had to renew my mortgage with my current provider on a less competitive rate. Worst bit was when I submitted a complaint I was just ignored and they must have stopped working on my account, I only realised while on holiday that they hadn’t provided details of my VAT return as agreed, even though several team members and the practice lead were contacted. I had to myself in the late evening of the due date.

   I rang tax assist. got an immediate appointment at the Barnsley branch where i was met by very friendly and professional staff.Lindsay Whiteley quickly delt with my tax problem which had been created by the shoddy workmanship of a previous accountant.Lindsay did give me great advice and i left feeling totally relaxed and confident in her work.I would recommend Lindsay and her capable staff.

   My experience has left me shaken, intimidated, demeaned and bullied. We self assess in our small business but for the purpose of getting a mortgage, we have been required to ask an accountant to write us a projection letter. We had a consultation in the Barnsley branch and before we had even gone into the books and turnovers we were told that the fee will excess £200 as he needed to do background checks to make sure we weren’t money launderers. This got mentioned 3 times. He sold us the heavy pitch of joining them to have our accounts done, to which I said we’d think about but for now just needed this letter. He said he needed the money upfront, nothing like what the website claims. He looked at my books which were fine apart from small details where I could have saved tax if I had so chosen. So nothing detrimental to the reason we were there. He said I would need to redo all tax returns as they were all wrong. (Despite having already been processed by HMRC) He said he could do that for a few. He began to get quite pushy, said there were too many “obstacles” and that the £200 he quoted would be now closer to £500. He then said in a rather aggressive way that he “actually didn’t want to do this at all” Said he didn’t have time and wasn’t prepared to do it unless we agreed there and then for him to be our accountant and to pay him £50 a month. I had been holding back tears for the best part of an hour, so at this point, I gathered all my paperwork and my books which he had written all over and walked out. I just left and burst into tears upon reaching the street. He was vile and aggressive, pushy and incredibly patronising.

   Swapped to tax assist Barnsley January 2017 after having 2 previous poor accountant's but found the staff and main accountant (nick) very friendly and nothing too much trouble they have completed me 2 VAT quarters and a year end so far and everything has been explained in simple term I do really feel like a person and not a number please keep up the good work.
