My NAG1 (Merc/Jeep) gearbox developed a fault at home. I called Gearbox UK, explained the symptoms and fault (read with 2 high end diagnostics tools). Was assured they were familiar with this (pretty common) box and were capable of repair. I arranged with the AA, who also read the data/codes, to transport my car to them due to risk of damage driving there. I see on my tracker it was driven at 30mph once dropped off I get a call 3 days later saying they can't read the codes/data and the box is leaking oil, so they don't want to fix it. It then cost me over £200 to get the AA to move it to another specialist in Sheffield, who found the fault & repaired it within a week. It seems a bit strange that anyone would drive a car that fast with a gearbox making an awful noise, when unable to read the codes. First garage I've come across that won't fix things full of oil that have a fault that is also causing an oil leak. Only after I had to pay £200 to move my car elsewhere, did they tell me they sometimes have issues with their computers reading my car. Had that even been mentioned beforehand, I would have used my one free recovery differently. 2 stars, as they answer the phone quickly. Just a shame they assured me they could do the work and then decided not to - at my cost and massive inconvenience - having to borrow another car to meet the AA to pick it up again, and then at the other garage for dropoff. They didn't even bring my car from the back of their yard, they just handed my the keys and I had to go fetch it out onto the street myself, for the AA.
Fabulous service from this company! I’m writing this review on behalf of my Aunt June. Where do I start? My Aunt’s car broke down two weeks ago. After receiving a quote of between £3-£5k for a clutch repair or new clutch at a different garage, at 81 she was considering that it wasn’t worth driving anymore, even though she is still a very competent driver. This would have impacted hugely on her life and her caring for my Uncle (who is in his 90’s), they have no shops, doctors or dentists nearby to them, so she would have really struggled to maintain their independence. She swims three times a week to stay fit and this would have stopped too. We spoke to Dave at Gearbox UK, who was so helpful and put my Aunt at ease. Within hours he had organised collection of my Aunts car from the garage (as it was not drivable), tested it and found it wasn’t the gearbox, but an ABS fault with the cost in the hundreds rather than the thousand. The car was repaired the next morning and Dave even offered to organise to pick my Aunt up to collect the car! I cannot thank Dave and the guys enough! You have more than just fixed a car….you have impacted my lovely Aunts life more than you know - and we are so grateful! Thank you xxx

Hi all! So, if you want to lose a lot of money in a year, you can leave your car here! 1 year and 3 months have passed since the regeneration of my gearbox. so you can say that right after the warranty, the gearbox behaves as before the regeneration ...£ 1,200 and only a year was quiet. apparently they do a road check, so they checked my car that they did not connect the turbo cable....
