   Absolutely awful food tonight , usually get from here once a week but absolutely awful tonight . Ordered through the Uber App , had to wait to find a driver possibility the food was the way it was due to being stood wrapped up. Food was soggy and just warm thrown in the bin won't be ordering again .

   Having already reviewed a traditional fish and chip shop in Widnes for The Chippy Tour, I had been recommended Paul's several times. After a few months, I decided it was time to give it a try. There is limited parking to the front and some street parking nearby. Upon entering, I found the shop spotlessly clean and tidy. The staff, all in uniform, were busy, with one member up to his elbows in soapy water cleaning equipment in the back. They were friendly and polite. The standard cod and chips were tasty, though the batter was a tad greasy. The chips had good flavour but were mostly limp, albeit plentiful. The homemade fish savoury was delicious and thick, with a thin and tasty batter. The battered beef burger was nice and a good size. There was a choice of mild or spicy curry, so I opted for the spicier one. It was thick, smooth, and a generous serving. The homemade chop suey roll was thick and packed with noodles and small chunks of meat. If you are anywhere near, call in. They offer an number of other food options.    I never normally write reviews but this was a joke tonight. Ordered via uber eats. Sends order with amendments, I got a notification back on the app saying they can’t amend ingredients and if I accept the order comes as standard with no changes to accept and it would go through or be cancelled, I did this and it said order was fine. I called to ask where the food was and a unhelpful lady said track it on uber it will tell you (rude) Over one hour later still no food. Called back and she says oh we cancelled it we are too busy to customise orders even tho I sent the order back as a normal order with no changes. Disgusting service. 3 children still with no food because we was waiting on this order! Awful customer service.

   Came here tonight purchased chips and OK sauce amongst other things, the sauce was dished up in the back. When I got home i found a fly squashed in the lid of the sauce which of course completely put me off. Really not happy because I was looking forward to this but then it made me think of how sanitary it is behind there if you can serve customers with flys in the food. Not happy atall Also, the large portion of chips is not worth it atall, a few others have mentioned that their portions are small but that was just ridiculous

   Honestly it was a bit disappointing given so great reviews. The plaice was average, the crust was a bit soggy, the cod was a bit dry. The scampi and salt and pepper popcorn chicken were not too bad. The most annoying thing was how the mushy peas are in the fries. I suspected it would be the case as there was no choice of salt / vinegar when ordering, which is unusual for a chippy, so I added instructions of salt and vinegar and the peas on the side. They were ignored to my partner's detriment.

   We go here every year when we come to visit our family, and we've never once been disappointed. The chip servings are very big so you will never finish what you order. And the biggest hilight for me was when I was about 7 they gave me a free slushy (there was no real they were just being nice) so even though I don't visit very often I will never buy from another chippy when I do.
