Went to this shop to get my first bird. A little budgie I named Horus. As soon as I went in, the atmosphere was amazing, the birds were chirping and playing with one another. The gentleman behind the counter was so helpful and gave me so much advice and how I should best handle the bird! Would certainly recommend this place and would honestly go back

Recently bought a snake, went in to see if there was any bits and bobs I could get for my Viv, asked a few questions to the owner (can't remember his name) as I'm new to the whole snake scene... I was there chewing his ear off for a good 20 minutes and he was happy to help answer any worries I had, i was also told if I was ever worried I could always ring his store for any help. Absolute legend, thanks again pal.

⭐️ 0 stars — this place is revolting. I left this shop feeling physically sick, itchy, and like I needed a shower. It’s honestly one of the dirtiest, most depressing places I’ve ever been. The whole shop stinks, everything is coated in dust, and it looks like nothing has been cleaned in months. There were three pythons shoved into one filthy tank, with only one hide and disgusting, murky water. Several underweight bearded dragons were crammed together in another tank, clearly stressed and neglected. Every reptile enclosure I saw only had a single hide, when there should be two or more, so the animals had nowhere to properly thermoregulate or feel secure. On top of that, many of the water bowls were either empty, overturned, or full of dirty water. Worst of all, I saw a carpet python crawling with mites, looking extremely unwell and possibly suffering from a respiratory infection. As if that wasn’t enough, the shop is not wheelchair friendly at all. It’s so cramped and cluttered that I could barely fit through the door, and I actually had to move boxes out of my way just to get down the aisles. It’s completely inaccessible and unsafe. When I first entered, it was clear I was struggling to get through the doorway, yet not one person offered to help. Nobody said “Do you need a hand?” or even a simple “Hi, how can we help you?” They just ignored me completely and were extremely rude. What baffles me most is that this place actually advertises itself as an “animal hotel.” I’m genuinely shocked and appalled that anyone would trust them to care for their pets. The idea that people choose and pay these people to look after their animals is beyond me — it’s horrifying. I would honestly rather leave my reptile alone with no care at all than send him there. That’s how bad it was. It’s beyond unacceptable — it’s cruel. No animal should ever be forced to live like that, and no customer should walk out of a pet shop feeling contaminated. The conditions here are disgraceful, and this place should be investigated immediately.

I cannot recommend this place enough! We bought our African Grey (Smokey) from here. All the staff are friendly and happy to help. They have done a brilliant job rearing him, he is so tame it's unbelievable, he is happy to go to absolutely anyone! We paid a deposit when he was just a couple of weeks old, and because we are nearly a 4 hour drive away, relied on Terry and the staff for video updates of how he was getting on. We wanted a male, and Terry took an educated guess and picked out Smokey, after a DNA test was done, he was right! I doubt I'll ever be in the market for another Parrot, but if I am, I won't be going anywhere else.

Messaged them asking for advice on my bearded dragon, they didn’t reply and blocked me a couple of days after. Seems like they only care when you’re buying stuff off them, which is a terrible view to have if the shop promotes good animal welfare, in the reptile industry they should be friendly and passionate. Would not recommend for general advice.

I am so happy to give this review, after being scammed we lost hopes of owning an african grey. We came across appleton exotics and were very happy with the quick responses around our queries. Terry was so responsible and we were very impressed to see his involvement and not just treat it as another sale. He went an extra mile to come and drop our little bird to our home which was a good 4 hour drive. The smile on his face and the way he interacted with the bird shows the interest and investment he put in the bird. If you need a bird this is your place

Staff are so passionate and caring, they give honest information and it is such an interesting place to visit. Christmas 22 was special for my Son because he chose a bearded dragon on Christmas Eve and Dave had everything set up ready for him.

We bought a blue and gold macaw from this shop. Terry, the owner, is very experienced and friendly, and was more than happy to answer all of our questions. The animals are well looked after. Our macaw is very healthy and super tame!! Would definitely recommend.
