The first time I visited Margo 2 years ago and she did a great haircut for me. But my last visit ended in disappointment. When I came to the Hair Lounge, my hair was to my waist, I asked to keep the length of my hair! But in a matter of seconds, my hair was cut almost to my shoulders, and I also got bang that I didn’t ask for. I don’t like my uncomfortable hairstyle at all and I really miss my long hair that I’ve been growing for several years. In the end, I left my hair and money there, and kept a haircut which I don't like :((((

Been needing a new hairdresser and complete refresh. I learned Margot had opened in the area and was keen to give it a try. Flexible to suit my working hours Margot accommodated my needs and I’ve just been for my first consultation and restyle. Came out feeling great and love the new look x

Margo is a hair genius! She really listens to what the person is looking for (in my case, hair that needs minimal input from me but is still smart enough for work…) and finds a way to make it work. She’s amazing with colours: a proper expert in her field. She did all the prep for my wedding hair - and my hair on the day itself - a decade ago and I haven’t been tempted for a second to use anyone else since. Can’t recommend her highly enough.

One of the best hairdressing experiences I've ever had! I was a little apprehensive going to a new salon as I was dealing with the most horrendous regrowth! Margo was so welcoming, knowledgeable and completely put my mind at ease. Absolutely love my cut and colour, and already booked my next appointment. Highly recommend.

There are a few hairdressing salons called The Hair Lounge. The one is Edinburgh is not part of a chain and is pretty special in its own right. Owner Margo Hogarth offers something other than a good haircut or colour. She gets a real sense of what you want but also for those times when you're undecided. If you're like me, going to the hairdressers is also about the little things, like the atmosphere, the refreshments and the location. The Hair Lounge delivers on all of those. Let's talk about atmosphere. Amidst cool, contemporary furnishings and ambient music, there are never too many customers. Margo offers a one-to-one service, managing all her clients, clients who come back time and time again. I'm sure that's partly because of the varied conversation should you want to chat. Conviviality is way up there, in a totally relaxed environment, the only onlooker being Seamus the dog :-). While you're offered great tea of coffee, there are two cafe's close by: Odds and Ends is next door and Piece Box is a little round the corner. And, while you're at it, if you need a deli, Margiotta is opposite. Which brings me on to location. This area is a wee haven of loveliness found on the no. 27 bus route, only 8 minutes walk from the thriving Bruntsfield and 6 minutes by bus to Tollcross. Wheelchair friendly, The Hair Lounge services a fantastically eclectic range of customers, is extremely attentive and very reasonably priced. So why not give them a try?
