It was cosy and nice. Nice food, fresh vegetables. In the beginning there was a staff member who was kind of busy and it looked like she ignored us, she could have asked her colleague to help us (who eventually did after recognize that we were ignored indeed).
We live nearby and before moving here we had frequented the Steam Wheeler at Braehead which is part of the same group. We have been coming here for about 18 months and sometimes bring our pup. The food is great! Good value for money and always good quality and prepared well. Unfortunately, front of house is letting the whole place down. Service is *painfully* slow. Seems to average only a few minutes to get seated but at times, when they are not busy, we have waited 5+ minutes to even be acknowledged by front of house staff. It averages about 10 minutes for drinks orders to be taken and a further 15 for them to arrive (usually just Pepsi). Today it took 25 minutes for the drink order to be taken and this was prompted by me asking someone if we could order. Two Pepsi then took a further 15 minutes to arrive. 40 minutes from being seated to having 2 cold drinks. Food seems to arrive within a timely manner prompted by the kitchen staff who are on the ball. After food, they usually forget to fire the next course after taking plates away and after the meal is done, you can fully expect to sit for another 30 minutes before they come anywhere near to ask if you would like more drinks, another course or the bill. Plates sit for 30+ mins on other tables before being cleared. Staff are not proactive. Staff are dreadfully slow. Staff are, in all honesty, needing completely retrained in customer service. Staff are usually standing around the end of the bar chatting about their evenings whilst you sit there trying to get their attention for basic service skills. Bar needs a good clean. A lot of dust in places close to food also. Food great. FoH staff shocking but polite.
I booked a table for dinner as my husband and I were babysitting my great niece and nephew who live nearby. We have been several times before and have always enjoyed the casual friendly atmosphere. I booked online which was easy to do however we were running late for our booking so I called the restaurant to advise of this. I was reassured that this would not be a problem. On arrival we were welcomed in a friendly manner and when I asked if we could be seated near the small play area, this was request was made although we were told we would need to place our order at the bar which was not an issue. The restaurant was relatively quiet where we were sitting so the kids were able to play without disturbing others. We used the QR code on the table to place our order for the first time…I’m not the best with technology but this was easy. The food arrived within 10 minutes and was very tasty. Was it posh food? - no but the portions were great… even for the under 5 which was loads. It was good pub-quality food so exactly what we were expecting. We used vouchers for money off our main courses so it was also good value. We will be back and would certainly recommend to anyone who is looking for a no frills, casual, friendly, relaxed good-value dining experience. Thank you Ravenscliff
Stayed in the hotel here as well and decided to have breakfast. Its a chain bar with standard drinks. The service was good and the manager was friendly and nice to see a manager actually working the floor. We had the full English meal and it also included a continental breakfast so very good value for money. Food was lovely and hot, and if we come this way again, I will try more food from the menu. There was a toddler play group going on in another area of the bar which was nice. Plenty of parking.
It's good, simple pub grub. Great deals on drinks and food, really good service. What makes Raven's Cliff utterly delightful is that dogs are some of their most valued customers. Dog friendly places are getting more common but The Raven's Cliff does a well presented dog menu, remembers who they are, has a wall with photos of their "regulars" and makes them a comfortable as possible. The surroundings are really chilled out and peaceful. A real little haven!
Check in experience was most disturbing. The manager Hannah requested my credit card in case I damaged the room! As I had paid upfront and there were no facilities as the restaurant opposite was closed, I saw no reason to give my credit card. I was told that I could leave as Hannah was not prepared to let me have the room I paid for in advance. Reluctantly, I gave her the bank card I paid with because at 22:00h, I was not prepared to go looking for a hotel. I asked if it was normal for guests to damage the rooms and by the look on her face, it was! I crossed over to the hotel and through the automatic door into the vestibule. The door leading to the rooms, which should be locked and require the electronic key to open it, was taped open with thick black tape covering the mechanism to keep it open. I of course removed it for my safety and the safety of the other guests. My room was spacious, basic and clean, as I expected for the price. There are many electric sockets and USB ports which is a bonus, especially beside the bed. The door did not lock but I just put the chair up against it as I was tired and couldn’t face another round with Hannah. I am sure I will sleep well as the bed looks fine. However, I will not be back nor will I recommend this hotel to my contacts. I get the impression that this hotel is for a certain type of guest which is not me!
Visited for Mother's Day lunch. The food was lovely as always. The children enjoyed playing in the outdoor play area. They are too big to play in the indoor one as that's for toddlers. They have wheelchair parking & access. The Accessible toilet is suitable for my needs but may or may not be suitable for other people. There is no changing places toilet. They catered to my food allergies, although as with everywhere else, there may be a small chance of cross contamination
I was really impressed with the look and feel of the room. The whole room was spotless and smelled fresh and clean. I was pleased to see the window frame and sill were spotless too. The bathroom was pristine but we had a bit of trouble with slipping in the bath while taking our showers as there was no rubber bath mat. (That's our only negative) I was really happy that our room had air conditioning too. The beds were comfy and the duvets and pillows were lovely, soft and plump. The food in the pub/restaurant was delicious and it was a pleasant place to have dinner. All the staff especially the manager were very nice and friendly. We are already looking forward to returning in the near future, to this cosy, well looked after hotel.
My stay here was amazing! So pleasant and such amazing staff! I enjoyed every minute of it. The cafeteria was always full of positive energy during breakfast thanks to Gael and Gio. This has been my best hotel experience in Scotland ever!
Invited out for a meal, service slow desite it being more or less empty, did not bother with Sweet menu, wanted home tonight. Food was basic nothing to write home about. Will probably not keep this in my places to go, would probably avoid.
