I had a great experience here with a friend. I had my prior gels and acrylic removed and new gel nails done and after a week they still look great! The service was excellent, my new place in Edinburgh.
I visited American Nails and Spa yesterday and had one of the worst nail salon experiences I’ve ever encountered in over 20 years of getting my nails done around the world. I feel compelled to share this in hopes of sparing others the same disappointment. First, the service was unfriendly and unprofessional. Staff were rude, and it felt like we were being pressured into getting gel nails, even after we had clearly declined. When we asked to choose a similar color from the gel polish options, we were immediately told no—with no effort to be helpful or accommodating. Second, the payment policy was questionable. They only accept cash, which raised concerns about transparency and whether they are avoiding taxes. Third—and most concerning—the hygiene standards were unacceptable. The tools used were not sanitized between clients, and the pedicure chairs smelled unpleasant, almost like someone had just sneezed all over them. The place did not feel clean or cared for. I went with a friend, and although we paid the same amount, we received very different levels of service. The technician I had seemed lazy and disinterested, while my friend received slightly more attention. When I raised concerns about cuticle care, I was told I’d have to pay extra just to have them cleaned—despite already paying £20 for a basic manicure, which only included nail polish. Another customer I overheard was told something similar, and when she complained, the owner dismissed her concerns by saying, “That’s your natural cuticle.” Overall, the experience was frustrating, unsanitary, and overpriced. This was my first and definitely last visit to this salon. I do not recommend American Nails and Spa to anyone looking for quality, hygiene, or respectful service.
I found this place just out of blue, and i am very, very happy. They took me immediately after i walked in, professional, clean, and very polite staff. I am truly happy to find this place and the price was adequate so 5 stars. Thank you so much !
I had such a great experience at american nails! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I came out with a lovely, detailed design that turned out even better than I imagined. Highly recommend for anyone looking for quality nails and great service!
I looked for a long time for a place that could do my nails the way I wanted and I finally found it here in Michael in particular who is full of talent and Emma always very kind. I have been coming here regularly for a few months now and the time has come to write a positive review which they deserve, because I am always happy and satisfied with the result so far. In these times of crisis when spending money to treat yourself requires extra effort, being happy and not angry when you leave the store is a great feeling. High recommended!
I’ve made this place my nail home in Edinburgh. They are quick, efficient, no frills, and amazing value. I have been twice so far for two different acrylic sets, and they have turned out perfectly and held up well in the weeks afterwards. They have a large range of colours, and though I have always booked in advance, I’ve seen a lot of people come in for walk ins and be seen to within 10 minutes. Could not recommend more, and I am going back for infills next week!
I love it here! They always make time for you even when it’s busy and my nails come out amazing everytime. Super friendly and super cheap! Could not recommend this salon enough!
My daughter came out with the worst nails she did not ask for. They charged her £35, they don’t take card so she was forced to go take money out, worst nail salon experience I have ever had. She was short in cash so thank you so much to the lovely lady that paid for her. We will not be coming back.
Worst gels I’ve had. Very thick and they left a big gap between the cuticle and the paint making it look like they have grown out. Sadly I do not have time to get these corrected before my event tomorrow. I am very disappointed with the service, I found the staff to be quite rude and will not be going back.
Quality of the work was great. They were quick and friendly which I personally appreciated. My only complaint is that they only took cash which I didn't immediately get (or maybe I missed it) from their website. Wasted a bit of time going out to find an ATM. Otherwise if I am ever in need of a mani / pedi and happen to be in Edinburgh I would return.
