We went with Thorntons on the recommendation of our mortgage advisor, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing and stressful from start to finish. After instructing our solicitor, we didn’t hear from her for about a week, despite having a very short timeline before our move-in date. We later learned she was on holiday, but no out-of-office or holding email was sent. This lack of communication caused unnecessary stress and had us very close to hiring someone else. We were also assigned a trainee solicitor. Totally fine - everyone needs to learn - but it seemed she was managing most of the communication. Many of the emails appeared to be copied and pasted between us and the part exchange company, which only escalated tensions and confusion as both sides became frustrated with the lack of progress. The most concerning issue came the evening before our scheduled move-in. We were sent an email forwarding an ultimatum from the part exchange company - that if terms weren’t agreed by 10 AM the next day, they’d pull out. Our solicitor clearly knew about this deadline, as she forwarded the email herself. We responded within the hour confirming we were happy to proceed. Yet the next morning, we were told the deadline had been missed and the part exchange had pulled out. No apology or acknowledgment of how this happened. Thankfully, our sales representative for our new home (not Thorntons) managed to intervene and salvage the sale, though our move-in was delayed as a result. Had it not been for their efforts, we would have lost the purchase entirely, all because an email wasn’t sent on time. Based on our experience, I unfortunately cannot recommend Thorntons and would suggest going with a more reliable firm that prioritises communication and attention to detail, especially when handling something as critical as a home purchase.

I can not recommend Ashley Brolly highly enough! Due to an ongoing family dispute, i have been with Ashley for a few years & i can't thank her enough. She is very professional / knowledgeable & definitely my voice of reason, even when I'm emotional she always knows the next step.

Hannah Fraser came out top in my research for finding a conveyancing solicitor for my property in Edinburgh. Her attention to detail within a very tight timescale was excellent, thorough and straightforward. Her prompt service enabled a seemless and early settlement making the property transaction swift and complete with ease. Thank you Hannah!

Thornton's Solicitors called me 24 hours before I was due to move on Thursday to tell me my ongoing purchase had been taken off the market 2 months prior. I asked if everything was ok on the Monday prior to conclude missive on my sale and was told “no red flags”, they never checked despite 2 months going by. No compensation to cover renting again while my life went into storage.

An absolute shambles unfortunately from beginning to end. I think this is more so the individual rather than the company. Kathleen-Erin laws on feels it acceptable to leave 3 months between communications. Doesn't stick to phone appointments and doesn't email or message saying why... Just leaves it. Absolutely diabolical, but as said before... This is only her as a partner and not the company as a whole.

I highly recommend Sue Calder from Thornton’s Law for all property transactions. She has not only been excellent in conveyancing for my own property but I have recommended her to friends who have also had an exceptional service. Sue has a wide knowledge of the market, many years of experience in the field, is always professional and works after office hours when needed to ensure everything is conducted smoothly. If you want an expert in conveyancing, whether buying or selling, you will not find anyone better than Sue and Thornton’s Law.

My Brother and I used Thornton's to assist us with a property legality. Throughout the process Hannah Fraser dealt with our 'case' and she worked tirelessly to make everything go to plan as well as keeping in constant communication with us every step of the way. We were happy with the cost of the service as well as the location of the offices being easily accessible. Very happy with the service received and would recommend. Will use again.

I found Thorntons Solicitors professional and they did work with me personally on a regular basis. I was kept up to date often by email and each step in my claim was explained thoroughly. I felt they acted very much in my best interest, securing a successful claim. I would use this firm again.
