MGM Hamilton visited yesterday.the staff were so pleasant and so helpful.certainly the way to treat customers and secure return visits.
3 times over the years I've tried to bring my business to MGM (Hamilton branch). Called today looking for timber cladding and was basically laughed at by a woman on the phone for our request, that said me I wouldn't get that anywhere as it's so expensive. While giving me the over nice attitude and laugh as if I was silly for asking. Most unhelpful company I've ever tried to bring my business to.
Super service again from MGM timber. Easy to use website, good quality products at a fair price. Service team very professional, called to update me on order and delivery details. Delivery driver was great, difficult location to drop off but managed it which saved me a great deal of time. Can’t fault them will definitely use again.
I've bought timber 3 times for various buy projects. Generally I find the price a bit more competitive compared to bnq which is the main supplier around my area; east kilbride. Hopefully I'm not being too harsh with 4 stars instead of 5, my experience of the business is really good- I went there once for 5m beams and we cut them in the bay before leaving and they were fine, and I've had a delivery with a phone call twice which is fine. The product is of course wood, and since it's natural there is an element of leniency when it comes to QA. This is my experience tho: most timber is consistent, the right dimensions, straight and a similar weight to the one before it. However when I buy like 20 beams I get a few that are significantly heavier/denser, a few slightly crooked, a few that are a few mm different from the spec. I'm personally quite accepting of it since it's not a problem for me but it's also not what in my head 5 stars looks like. Example or deck boards I bought- lovely piney smelly, all 20 seem true and well cut, but the knots in the wood sometimes are at the top layer and have rotten in a few cases leaving a gap in the pattern. Again nature isn't perfect so not much can be done other than buy manmade material! If it was all the best wood it would probably be twice the price so you can't get everything from a shop ... I'll definitely be back again for my next project!
Called the Hamilton branch this morning to ask to change part of my order before I collected it and the woman on the other end of the phone couldn't have been anymore rude. Couldn't be arsed to listen to what I had to say or check my order, just huffed and puffed on the other end of the phone, and kept talking over me. This is some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced, some training required here I think. Wouldn't use or recommend MGM again due to the ignorance I received on the phone.
AVOID, work with mgm for a while as a driver, hardest part and reasons I left was because every single day I was lying to customers because the office staff made major mistake from telling people next day delivery and not even having the items in stock, while the customer was promised it would be there. Also watched a good regular customer paying his account only for it to be taking by office, mgook the customer to court and won putting the guy out of business..
It's was better when Robert Reid nothing was too much trouble for them , this lot are not interested in customer service.

I’ve never experienced such discrimination as I witnessed at this low level builders merchants. The staff are completely ignorant to government advice and have made their own facist policy to needlessly discriminate against individuals with medical exemptions from wearing a mask. This company would be suited to a 1940’s concentration camp in southern Poland. Their facist policy to demand an exemption card resembles headless turkeys voting for Christmas. We have an assumption the Hamilton store staff are merely simple people taking instructions from an Idiot sales manager at head office who has zero customer service skills. Amazed Mr Donaldson hasn’t replaced him as yet.
Terrible place since being taking over, card payments only, even although the cards and card Machine pass on covid19, and the new cash doesn't. The Reids would never have treated customers in this way. No time for the wee customers anymore at mgm.
