I recently took the Search for the Northern Lights tour in Scotland, scheduled for the last week of November 2025. Where things fell flat was the actual Northern Lights part. The tour only included about 1.5 hours of aurora searching in total, which felt pretty underwhelming given that the entire trip is marketed around that experience. The online itinerary suggests night-time outings on both evenings (weather permitting), but that didn’t happen. What also raised eyebrows is that the company has fixed tour dates published for the next 12 months, even though the KP index — the thing that actually affects aurora visibility — can only be predicted about a month in advance. Planning so far ahead without real data makes it unlikely you’ll catch strong auroras, and it definitely shouldn’t be advertised as a high-chance experience. The scenery was stunning — especially the visit to Ullapool, which was absolutely worth the trip. The accommodation, food, transport, and staff were all solid, so no complaints on the comfort side. Overall: great service, comfortable trip, beautiful locations… but if you’re booking primarily for the Northern Lights, temper your expectations.

Cumbria Grand Hotel. Staff are fantastic, friendly, efficient and give a very warm welcome. Hotel's resident peacock is hilarious - he sits on a windowsill watching guests go for breakfast.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at The Royal Hotel in Oban. The journey was excellent with a very friendly driver - Russell. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. The food at the hotel was superb both in quality and choice. We have been on quite a few day trips and holidays with Strathmore Travel and have found their service to be excellent

Went to belfast.cannot fault hotel or food both were good.unfortunately can't say same about the driver who told me twice that the trip to giants causeways would be just over an hour in place leaving us time to go to titanic Belfast in afternoon we got there and as we were getting off bus he announced that he would be back in three hours when I asked him why he said an hour before his answer was an abrupt well you can still just make it for last admissions no apology for leading us to believe that the trip would be shorter .our day was wasted as 3 hours is far too long for anyone there.if he had been honest about the time we would not have went.and made other plans very disappointed with his attitude on that occasion

Our Ireland Tour 27.08.- 02.09.22 didn't get off to a good start after one of the guests used the toilet for a non-fluid function, thereafter we were instructed not to use the toilet at all! (except on the last day) The Hotels were clean and meals were good. On the 01.09. we arrived at the Stena Line Port at 08:15 h only to see the Ferry leaving. The driver claimed he had been given the wrong time of departure from his Company and they couldn't be contacted, but he would try to get us on the next Ferry at 15:00 h. We were involantarely left in Dublin to our own devices till the Stores opened. Our Driver tried to make up for lost time, arriving in our overnight Hotel at 22:30h where soup and Sandwiches were supplied. The driver left informing us that breakfast was at 08:15 h but no information of the departure time. The communication between Driver and passengers was basic.

Excellent driver called Stuart that is all I can recommend about the trip to Orkney. We were put in a different hotel the first night because of overbooking. It was appalling and dirty. The food was look warm and disgusting. Arrived at Stromness Orkney to an even dirtier room. The bed side light didn't work and there was no milk. The only thing for dinner was watered down leek and potato soup luke warm. Pasta luke warm and watery some of the pasta undercooked. After a long trip it was all self service but no one cleared the plates between meals. No water available on tables. No napkins or side plates and no other choice of food. The staff were depressed and untrained however I had to feel sorry for them as they hadn't a clue what to do. Then it was discovered you could not have a glass of wine with your meal as the owner was Albanian and did not approve of drink although he was never around I was told. I will not be having another holiday with Strathmore and would not recommend them. I also had to pay an extra £100 for a single room. These kind of places make me embarrassed to be Scottish and put our visitors through what we have had. Disgusting all round. I don't see any replies to the complaints. It was so bad one man was taking pictures and previous guests ate out.
