this club/martial arts school, sadly is only for the rich, or ppl who can afford the high fees. it’s a shame they don’t take into consideration the cost of living crises on specially abled/disabled folk, who are unemployed but also want to train and learn. shame.
Excellent tutoring, small gym open to all adults so parents can fit in a workout whilst waiting for little ones. Saturday BJJ and Sunday wrestling is particularly recommended. There’s an air of camaraderie and community for those (adults) in BJJ practice.
Dropped in for a day class led by Coach Dickie and it was a great experience! If you’re looking for high-level coaching and tough, technical training partners, I highly recommend checking out Carlson’s. I'm based outside of London, but whenever I'm here I sign up for a week. Plenty of classes, including Judo and Wrestling. Glenn and Eric are great coaches respectively. The fundamentals class and general class are top notch. Jon Villada is a great instructor, as is Martin Foot, and did a class today with Sam Gibson. 4 maybe 5 black belts on the mats, all sparring with each other alongside white belts. Family vibe, with an old school feel, its become my second home. Always made to feel welcome as a visitor.
Fantastic place to train, very welcoming and all the instructors are passionate & dedicated to help you get to wherever you wanna be, highly recommend!
Dropped in for a class, very welcoming, and highly skilled members and coaches. Facilities are a little worn, but easy to overlook based on the quality of instruction and tough rolls.
Had the misfortune of trying this place at one point. There was a long gap from my trial to when I went in to ask to try another lesson. Stating I would pay. I had the wrong price info. I explained I was epileptic and was weary of signing up due to safety fears. The OWNER became hostile. Opened the door and asked me never to return as I had interrupted his workout. I left with my head low. Wrote an email and received a cold response. Put me off BJJ for years as I thought most schools would also be that egotistical. Great BJJ places in London who realize that people like myself pay to keep the lights on.
Amazing gym with fantastic instructors and great students. Trained for some years at another club up North and was always told Carlson's London was a top gym. When I went I was made welcomed by the instructors and students alike. If you want to learn or improve your BJJ then this gym should be at the top of your list.
Been training here for about a month as a BJJ white belt. So far excellent experience. General atmosphere is very friendly, informal but focused and everyone is there to help. No bad attitude from senior grades/belts towards white belts/beginners - without fail every time I've worked with a more experienced practitioner they've given me feedback/tips. Real beginners should make sure they attend the Monday/Thursday Beginner Class but also welcome at the other sessions if you wish (although they go a lot faster and are more technical). Judo class on Saturday with Glenn also recommended. Currently upgrading the gym area - plans look great from what I've seen.
