This is a health centre and patients' pain should be taken more seriously. They put new girls who don't have the slightest empathy with people to work at reception and do triage. Several times I arrived at reception and had to wait for them to finish their daily gossip before calling me in the queue. Twice they gave me wrong information about doctors' schedules and timetables. They can't even do basic administrative tasksβimagine listening on the phone and classifying your symptoms as serious or not to decide whether you can speak to a doctor today or not. I called once at 8:35, high-risk pregnant, and they wouldn't let me speak to the GP; they told me to try again the next day. Zero empathy for such a great responsibility. Put trained professionals with the right profile for the job and implement recurring evaluations.

Always had a great experience here. Seen many staff members including Midwife/Nurses and Doctor and always been great. Reception staff always helpful too!

Quality of care from GPs, nurses and reception staff is excellent- we are very lucky to have such a dedicated team working under so much pressure with increasing demands with reduced resource. Claire

The reception team need training. Tried for weeks to arrange an appointment but due to their rubbish system where you have to phone before 8:30, I would be put on hold for half an hour, then told all of the appointments were gone. Once I ran out of medication because of this, I was told it was my fault and next time I should sort it out sooner? I had to wait weeks just for a phone call appointment. The phone call was less than five minutes and the woman sounded like she didnβt care about her job whatsoever. The attitude I received every time I phoned throughout being at this practice was shocking.

Recently moved to this GP and they have been the first practice to treat me with respect and patience whilst dealing with my chronic pain. Theyβre incredibly understanding and empathetic and offered me alternatives where other practices have fobbed me off to A&E or treated me like a time waster. It can be difficult to get an appointment but the staff are so lovely and supportive.

The appointment system for this practice is shocking. I have recently moved to the area. Long before requiring a new repeat prescription I a) I registered as a new patient following the guidance online and b) ensured that I called at 8.30am as told to book a consultation with a doctor to approve the prescription as, since I was a new patient, it was mandatory to do so. I called every morning for a week at 8.30 and the lines were busy until 9am, at which time I was told everyday that there were no appointments and to call back again tomorrow at 8.30. I have now run out of my medication, which could have been avoided. I appreciate that the practice are short staffed and dealing with medical emergencies. However, leaving me to now go without my medication creates a situation that could in itself lead to an emergency. If I had a choice, I would register with a different practice, but unfortunately this is the only one within my catchment area.

Great reception staff , Great Doctors , I have known Dr Pope over 30 years and Dr Connair about 15 years , I do have a lot of health issues , and either always get an appointment or a phone cal back. Which is reassuring to myself and family.

The system to get an appointment is horrible. They tell you that you have to phone at 8:30 to get an appointment for the same day which is virtualy impossible with the amount of people phoning at the same time. If you want an appoinment for any other day you can phone later but they tell you that everything is full for the next 2 weeks. You can phone every day and it's always the same thing. Apalling

I had an IUD fitted with Dr Smith and whilst it was a little uncomfortable, it was a lot better than I'd been anticipating! She was excellent as was her assistant and I felt very reassued whilst having the procedure done. Thank you!

This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review on a GP's surgery. After living 30 years in England and seen a degradation of services from my previous local GP surgery in Hampshire, the service from the team at West End Medical Practice in Edinburgh has been superb. On the off occasion Ive called, a Dr has called me back as promised and provided either a consultation via the phone or where required face to face. Follow ups have happened as committed, prescriptions ready when required and always a welcoming smile from the reception team. Thank you to the whole team at West End Medical Practice for all that you do.
