I have had the privilege of attending Glasgow Tango Collective in-person classes, Online Followers’ Technique classes and now private lessons with Vanessa Leamy Corsini. For me the most important and most valuable quality Vanessa offers students is her ability to teach, which can sound odd, I realise, but being an excellent practitioner doesn’t mean one will be a competent teacher. Vanessa’s great use of empathy and experience allows for very clear and differentiated approaches to delivering information in a clear, comprehensive, comfortable and even fun manner. The classes are varied with fun adornos as well as detailed technique that Vanessa always manages to make enjoyable, as well as make me eager to know more and practise. As a music teacher, I am particularly impressed with how Vanessa differentiates as well shows sincere encouragement without being condescending. It should also be said that Tango classes online are so much fun and I learn so much, yet I can’t imagine the challenge of being teacher’s seat, and yet the classes run so smoothly and are always thoroughly planned and enjoyable. Although Vanessa is seeing me through Zoom, usually on mute and often dealing with several other pupils as well as being in charge of the music, nothing escapes her! She even notices when I’m holding my breath and not properly relaxed, and yet her delivery of feedback is always so warm and only makes me eager for more.
