I have signed a contract was told to change my bank account with child benefit and then when they received my first child benefit payment they would release the funds I also allowed them to look throughly into my bank account then they took the first payment and never released the loan and I was told that they needed to look at something else on my bank statement. I am absolutely furious and this is not acceptable why get me to sign a contract and also why take money for a loan they havent even paid out. Avoid this company at all costs they are time wasters!!!!!!

I have been a member of the credit union for over 20 years. It was a great service and way to save money and take out loans. However, about 3/4 weeks ago I needed to apply for a loan. No-one answers the phone. I have tried numerous times to access my account online via their website and App unsuccessfully. I have changed my password and still cannot access it. After 3 attempts you get locked out. I have had several email messages back and forth. Today I managed to get someone to phone- thinking they were going to give me details an out taking out a loan. No, I was advised to try logging in again. I hung up. I tried logging in again and got a messsge my account is “barred”. So I still cannot find out about my money that is saved or how much I owe. Seriously considering closing my account after all this time.

2024 Further to below CCU have just surpassed their actions of 2023 by now giving new customers only a cheaper standard variable rate for mortgages and keeping existing customers on a higher standard variable rate. It's something that even banks have never dreamt of doing to their own customers on a standard variable rate mortgage! This establishment is wired so wrong. 2023 When something sounds to good to be true, it usually is and Capital Credit Union are no exception! Several months ago we re-mortgaged over to CCU's very competitive variable rate of 2.75%. Before we moved over we asked the question why are CCU so much cheaper than everyone else? Got told CCU care more about people than profits and do not follow Bank of England interest rate, so on that reasoning we re-mortgaged over to them. Less than two months into our new rate we get an email saying your rate is going up to 5% (rate almost doubled) because of the increases in the Bank of England rate. You can imagine how upset we felt given what we were initially told. How can a not for profit establishment who are self funding act in this way? Given that nobody in their call centre knows or wants to say and that they have not replied back to our email, the only answer we can surmise is GREED.

I was looking for an ethical personal loan, so it left me two options: use my existing building society or use a credit union. I found CCU since I live in the fife area, and their car loan rate was unbeatable. I dealt with Jamie and Nicholas and had a great experience. Loan details worked out swiftly, and it was all done within 48 hours from when I let them know I was ready to proceed. The process couldn't have been any less effort if they tried - an example of proper customer service. Very happy.

Dreadful: sloppy and inefficient. I decided to close my Credit Union Account as a result of poor service and information which flies in the face of industry standards. I was advised that, in order to close my account, I would need to complete a form or put my request in writing. I duly put my request in writing, delivered the letter by hand and, some ten days later, my account has not been closed. I telephoned the Credit Union to say that I had delivered a written instruction by hand requesting account closure and my account had not been closed. Someone had the effrontery to tell me, " We have received your letter. We are very busy, we will close your account today or tomorrow." When I enquired, "Do you have a standard response time for actioning requests to close accounts?" my enquiry was met with an embarrassing pregnant pause. It should be cause for serious concern that the Credit Union has failed to close my account, despite its promise that it would do so "today or tomorrow" and has claimed another savings' direct debit which would not have been claimed if they had done as they were instructed and closed my account expeditiously. I think staff at Capital Credit Union need to wake up to the real world. Being "busy" in the course of business is one of the normal vicissitudes of business life and is no excuse for failing to action a member's correspondence promptly and efficiently. When I joined the Credit Union, I was not told, if you wish to close the account we will make things difficult for you. Any other bank or building society, would simply close an account when instructed. I have now cancelled the Direct Debit mandate with my bankers. It should also be cause for concern that no one at the Credit Union advised me that I could withdraw all of my savings, save for a pound, whilst the account was pending closure. When I deduced this information for myself, I had to telephone again and join a long queue on the telephone to request the withdrawal of MY MONEY over the telephone. UPDATE. I have just phoned the Credit Union this morning to make a complaint and was told that I was position 7 in the queue which suggests that the service is not properly resourced. I just hope that they will now close my account. The delays are unacceptable. It would be all the same if I were in DESPERATE NEED FOR MY MONEY. Avoid this place, their rhetoric about their "touchy feely" business model does not play out in reality. I hope the Board of this Credit Union is taking heed.

Pretty decent company with good ethics. You'll usually be able to find better interest rates elsewhere, but at least using a credit union benefits the local community. Customer service lets them down, you will learn to hate there on-hold message, I don't think I've ever managed to call through without at least a 10 minute wait. Having said that, if the message is true then capital credit union have been experiencing exponential growth for the last several years and you can perhaps understand why they have not been able to keep up; have a listen, you'll see what I mean.
